    Hey,
i'm Tracy and I thought that I should share this with you all. My good friend Dylan, a rather spiritually cultivated fellow, when I mentioned how I wanted to meditate, told me to sit, close my eyes, and concentrate on my breathing for a minute... I did and when I opened my eyes I was refreshed and the time had felt rather short though it had been several minutes. Sit, Close your eyes, and breathe, don't put any time limits on yourself, or worry about relaxing... just breathe..

Yeah, focusing on breathing is good. It's even easier if you try some sort of special breathing technique. A common one is breathing with the throat rather than the nose (Ujjayi breath, that is). The Nadi Shodhana alternate nostril breathing technique is also very nice to do before going into actual meditation.

    "Don't try - do."
    -Yoda.

    :D

    Here's a simple one:

    Find a waterfall.
Look at the top and follow a drop of water all the way down.
    Repeat over and over again.

There should come a point where you see not just one drop but all the drops coming down at the same time. When you get bored, follow 2 drops down at the same time. Then 3, then 4, then 100, then 100,000. Watch a whole wave falling - follow it down. WHen it gets to the bottom move your eyes to the top and follow another wave down.

As time goes on your breathing will have slowed down. The waterfall will look like it has stopped falling.

And also,, anytime you are meditating and the world tries to intervene,,,, thoughts,,, feelings etc... Reconcentrate on your breathing. It helps you focus.

oh yes,i surely will have this kinda simple meditation-session too, for i really just again have to "learn" how to calm down and relax when the ordinary day is just so hectical and disturbing, exhausting and confusing.... .

for my part,it is even helpful and efficient enough to look out into the world, just trying to be no-one for some time and invisible for the others...just observing the people doing the ordinariest things, the way one is walking, chatting, riding ones bike can be very interesting then, the little unspectacular things become enormeous and intensive, you feel yourself being deeply concentrated and in a way excited..this is what brings me back to life, seing life is going on,with or without you....this makes me feel free and easy.

i heard if you imagine your breathing through two small holes a few inches below your nostrils it leads to a deeper meditation

Treat your mind like a puppy. it will playfully run away again and again. even the masters of meditation do this.. I know, one's told me :) just be patient and good-natured, and bring the puppy back to where it was. center it again and again (and you will reap the rewards) :p

I read that in a yoga and meditation book I have, they say to mainly concentrate on the pause between exhalation and inhalation, I found it worked great as well!
