I'm going to be learning the guitar soon, and I just want to know something. Are acoustic and electric guitars the same? I mean, if you can play one, can you play the other? Because I like both kinds and once I learn to play I will likely want to have one of each. Any help here?
if you know how to play one, then you can play either of em. There is just a different feel you get from playing them. To start though, you should definitly go with an acoustic.
I would not recommend starting out on an acoustic, because acoustic bodies are generally more awkward and uncomfortable, and nylon strings are alot harder to manipulate to answer your original question, acoustic guitars and electric guitars are essentially the same other than the fact that acoustic bodies are hollow and electric bodies contain electronics, and acoustic guitars most often use nylon strings as opposed to steel also, acoustic necks generally contain the same number of frets as the neck of an electric, but are nearly impossible to play higher up as the shapes of most acoustic bodies leave no space for your hand
amps arent necessary for when youre practicing in your room by yourself, but if youd prefer to have one youd probably be able to find a decent small amp for around $70, or even less for a used one over here you can get tiny crate amps for $75 cdn, which are of fairly decent quality for a small amp
whichever one costs more will be their suggestion try out different guitars and decide for yourself what youre most comfortable with theres no trick to buying a guitar, choose what feels right
Why would they suggest the more expensive one? I'm not going through a music store or anything. Just people I know.
viking is a wrong-you should definetly start out on acoustic, not electric. nylon strings on most acoustics? what?! most acoustics have steel strings, not nylon. the nylon ones are more meant for finger picking and classical. go get a sleel string acoustic for 100 bucks, or 200, or even 300 if you want. no need to get a great one. acoustic guitars are much more difficult to play than electric. so even if you have it in your head that you want to play electric, if you start out on acoustic you will turn out to be a much better electric player.
I dont see your logic... also, I forgot to mention that acoustic guitars often have wider necks which makes them even more awkward to play
? acoustics are not awkward. they are just different. anyone on these forums would agree with my logic.
acoustic guitars arent awkward if youre used to them, but for someone whos just starting out an electric guitar would almost certainly be more comfortable what you said about learning on an acoustic makes no sense, because the easier it is to play your guitar, the easier it is to learn you dont get better by being uncomfortable with your guitar all the time
no idea bro, me... I started with a trumpet, then picked up a bass... I can play the guitar as well now.... you kinda start to get a ear for music in general, so start with what ever you want man, you can you change anytime you want too... thats the kewlness of it. but that is also just my opinion.
by this logic, it'd make more sense to start out on an acoustic, cos once you get that down electric would be nothing and you wouldnt have to relearn anything. no, thats not right.. not if you get a cut-out.
what you want to do first is learn how to play the guitar, until youre fluent enough to pick one up of any shape or any string type and play it well if youre fluent on electric guitar then you will have no problem playing acoustic what im saying is that its faster to learn on electric, because its more comfortable and less awkward for a beginner to use cut-outs are expensive
