For many years I've wondered why pot is called marijuana. That's the name for c. sativa and c. indica in central and nirth America, and Europe. Why is it called marijuana? That's just a common woman's name (Mary Jane in english). Why not it's own name, like for instance maize or wheat? Why not Peggy Sue or Linda Lou? Thanks to the internet I found out. Marijuana was the brand name of a cheap cigarette sold in Mexico circa 1900. Pot picked up it's name from that brand of cigarette.
Yeah. I went to Books-A-Million one day and found this book I think it was um called Illegal Drugs or something really obvious. It had the entire history of every kind of drug you could think of and I remembered some things it said about Mj. It came from Mexico, but back in the early days it was mainly used by women to find out who their future husband would be and during labor to relieve the pain. It's been viewed over the centuries as a woman's drug because of this.
I thought it came from "mary and John" ("maria and juan" in spanish), the two who stood at the feet of Jesus as he died on the cross. Marijuana stands by the working man in hard times too.
