I know not all in here consider themselves to be hippies but I was wondering - for those that do- if when you guys have drugs on you if you avoid the 'hippie look'. Like do you make sure to not wear tye dye and hemp so as not to get profiled?? Reason I ask- there was a huge drug bust the other day and they were targeted because they looked like hippies.
The world is full of stereotypes. Hippies themselves are guilty of it. I used to have long hair and when I'd go into a hippy bar or what not in town, I found many 'hippy' types to be very warm and welcoming towards me - as soon as I cut it off, I didn't receive the same treatment, the 'hippy' types would hardly talk to me at all. The drug bust you describe is no different. I know that in certain states (I think Massachusettes is one of them, which is odd because it is a very liberal state) that having a Steal Your Face sticker on your car is considered probably cause to search your vehicle. Whoever got busted in your town shouldn't be suprised at all that they got profiled. More than likely they profile others themselves.
I know I've toned down my look so as not to look suspect. I'm sure I'm not in the minority either. I bet some of the most normal looking people you pass on the street are raging addicts.
HA! no one here cares about looks.......tye dye ....hemp....everyone wears it .....no one has to avoid the "look" if they have pot....you only get caught here if you are dropped in for selling or buy'n ....or if you have a joint behind your ear or a huge pot leaf or some kinda of sticker like that on your car window....lol.....most the cops do it too! lol
no the cops never bother me about it, just the people that give you evil stares. its pretty entertaining to watch them .
cops dont worry about such shit... if they did... they'd be circling the frisbee golf course all day long lookin for people with bud

I just look how i normally do. Im not a hippy type. if i get pulled over, i just speak articulately and give them my ID and what not. Ive gotten away with a big bag of weed in my pocket like twice cuz im so cool around them.
I'm sure it depends on what kind of area you're in...if you're in a small town in the Midwest, driving a VW Vanagon/Microbus, wearing tye-dye, and have long hair...you'll be targeted. However, if you're in a large town on one of the coasts, I'm not sure you have too much to worry about. Cops in every town are different and are taught different methods of profiling. I myself, live in a small town in the Midwest...I look like a "hippy", although I do not drive a vehicle that looks like what one might drive. Because I look the way I do, I avoid carrying any drug paraphenalia on me...because I know I would be targeted. You just have to be smarter than those that are trying to find you *winks*
