I am looking for a good baby sling. I have seen lenamaria's pics and she has a nice one. Where do you get one that is easy to use and convenient for both a nursing mom and an on the go dad? I have been online and I just don't know which ones are the best, I need a personal testimonial.

Also I am looking for later on to naturally diaper baby. I will probably use disposable until the baby is at least 6 months. Any good brands or websites? For either one please.
    Thanks
PS only 25 more days or so to go

OH!!! Thanks for posting this Chill mama!!!! Have you seen my link? I am a consultant for a company called The Natural Family Boutique. It's one of those MLM companies, which I always said "there's no way I'll ever do direct sales", but this company supports everything that I believe in. It's an avenue for me to spread the word about natural and empowered birth and parenting. Also, that there are more products out there that support our environment and are not wasteful, like most.

here's my link as well as in my signature:

Enough about that, if you've seen my link, then you know that our company sells 6 or 7 different kinds of slings (and many different types of cloth daipering products). Each one is good. I really like them all in different way. I think it depends on the users preference. If I had to pick a favorite...I'd have to say the Maya ring sling. The reason is that it's adjustable as opposed to the pouches. If she feels like she's too loose, I can always tighten it. She can be worn in so many different positions and the sling is fabulously fashionable!! I like the fabric.

I also make Mei Tais. The green one with the Om symbol on it in my gallery, I made that one. Let me tell you, if you sew, they're fairly easy to whip together and you can find patterns and instructions for making them at these sites (or I can always make one customized for you, just PM me):

    http://www.thebabywearer.com
    http://www.slingrings.com

You can also see reviews on the different types of slings there. On the babywearer site there is a forum that you can ask others about their preference for different carriers. It's a great site and has lots of good links.

Also, I have got to recommend these sites too:

    http://www.mamatoto.org
    http://www.rebozoway.org

and there's so many more but if you're inclined to read more on the whole babywearing concept and philosophies that come with it, you will find them.

Okay, my family is bugging me to join them for dinner. Mmmmm, fresh salmon and salad, yum.

    Gotta Run!!

    Much Peace,

    Lena

PS: Just let me know if you need any more info......and feel free to PM me any time. All Smiles!

the Maya-style slings are awesome. I found instructions online to make one when Willow was a babe, but i thought i was done having kids, so i converted it to a laundry sack, haha! I better find those plans again, lol.

I loved that thing; totally adjustable and plenty of extra fabric to shield baby from the sun, or cover yourself while nursing. With a quick adjustment, my husband could use it too, and he's a big guy (6' 4" and i have no idea what he weighs, haha, it suffices to say he's big).

If you go to mayawrap.com and click on the economical slings (or something like that) they have directions to make a sling. Lena's UBB website has lots of great stuff too, and you will be helping a sister out if you buy from her. You should really consider using cloth diapers before the baby turns 6 months. Once they start on solid foods the poops are not as nice. Totally breastfed baby poop is not at all unplesant and the pee doesn't smell offensive either. You don't even have to rinse it out of the diapers, just throw them in the wash on a rinse cycle and then wash in mild soap. You will love it!! The new diaper wraps are so simple to use that there is no need to buy the throw aways anymore!

I had an Over the Shoulder Baby Holder, and really like it. I do wish I had had the opportunity to try a Maya Wrap, though. They look so comfortable for both baby and mama.

I had the over the shoulder Baby Holder also, I loved it but it was kind of bulky. My daughter has made several of the Maya wraps and has them to match her outfits! Her baby loves her sling! I also use a maya wrap when I'm doing postpartum work for mothers of twins. I put both of the twins in the wrap together and they love it. The moms are always amazed at it and encouraged to carry their babies more.

The maya wrap was uncomfortable for me,the rings just never seemed to lay right no matter what position i tried. I ended up making my own pouch-style sling instead. Of course Xander was a really really long baby (22 1/2 inches at birth,3 feet tall at 18 months!) so maybe it just wasnt for him. With Kali I had the over the shoulder baby holder too, that had plastic rings and padding and was more comfy but again, tinier baby.

I've heard that they(OTSBH) are very comfortable. The only thing is that they don't last as long as the maya do. I was talking to a lady who gets the otsbh and goes through two per kid :)

Never actually tried one myself, although I would like to.
