Phenobarbital is used to control seizures, as a sedative, to relieve anxiety, and for short-term treatment of insomnia.

go to rxlist.com > advanced search > and type in imprint code

Phenobarbital doesn't have any Tylenol or acetiminaphen in it. It is a LONG acting barb for seizures, which is the ONLY FDA indication for it. It is no longer approved for anxeity or for sleep problems. I would NOT take four of them. Barbs used to be the Number One prescription drug people Overdosed on, because it was presribed so much and people would take too much waiting for it to kick in. DO NOT take this drug with alcohol. It works with the alcohol to shut down your breathing system and is very dangerous with alcohol.

Barbs are rarely presribed anymore, as more effective, less problematic drugs have been used for the indications barbs use to be used for. Some are for seizures, and there is a combination drug with a shorter acting Barb, called butabital, which is mixed with caffiene aling with aspirin or tylenol, called Fiorinal (with aspirin) or Fioracet or Esgic Plus (with aceto.) This is used for headaches, but is very mild in terms of barbs. You won't see barbs too often outside these indications.

Phenobarb is a long acting barb and can take more than an hour or sometimes two to "kick in." Also being a long acting drug, it doesn't "hit you" like a short acting drug like Tuinal, Secondal or other "sleeping pills" do. Good luck finding Tuies or Secs, they are almost never prescribed anymore.

APAP is NOT a binder, it is an active ingredient. Common binders are INACTIVES such as chalk, stearates, or microcrystalline cellulose.

APAP is added to painkillers like Percocet and Vicodin for its anti-inflammatory properties. The opiates do a good job of relieving the pain, but do nothing to stop inflammation.
