even though it is in the italian section, we should probably keep the discussion as it started, i.e. in english... I am also pretty against the enter in Europe of Turkey... WHY? for many reasons, none of them is based on racism or mere discrimination... 1) first of all... European Union means UNION... and already before, with 12 or 15 members, it was hard to consider ourselved as unity.. now we are already 25... at least geografically united... the continent europe..ok... but what has turky in common with europe? nothing, except the 3% of its ground.. the Trace, connected with Greece.. 2) historically the 25 european countries had many relationships, both cultural and economical, but turkey has never had such connection... maybe only during the Ottoman Empire.. but it was not a "european" empire... 3) the language... well.. europe has not a single language, so the language argument is kinda weak... eventhogh it is possible to claim that turkish language is even non-indoeuropean.. (that means that hindi is more connected with italian that turkish f.e.), but uralic-altaic.. but also finnish is in the same situation.. and basque as well... 4) economically, turkey is far from being ready for europe... even now the CEE has many many economical problem.. and I understand pretty well norway, that decide to be "indipendent"... with another country such turkey there will be too many new problem, with so many still to be solved... 5) religion... eventhough there is not an official religion in europe and I am not a kinda "christian fighter", I think the islamism is uncompatible with european culture (well, islamist is a priori incompatible with any other cultures... it is stated in Coran).. religion should be private, or at least it should be free... but when a religion is always fighting agains ALL other credos... welll.... it better keep itself away... 6) law... there are also many juridical problems... I think that in turkey there is a superposition between secularized power and religious law.. and this cannot be tolerated in europe... and of course a european country should not have the death penalty....
I understand your point of view, Manolao. And those important points let me (maybe) change my mind... I think, after all, I need more information...
I think we all need more info about europe in general... the costitution for example... just now France and Nederland (2 of the 6 charter members of the EU) has voted "no" to the proposed costitution... in Italy noone asked us... and who of us know something about it? which principles? which of them are in agreement with our constituion for example? which are better? I am the first to admit of being ignorant in such matter... I am gonna now to search a source about it...
of course i dont think that Manolao (a famous hippy after all.) has any views that have to do with racism. Turkish people are very friendly and nice but there is a major problem with the people that lead Turkey. the army has a huge part of the power in Turkey and that makes turkey very militariste. the religion is bit of an issue cause u know there is fanatism about the great Islam and stuff.. the government doesnt respect the minorities such as tke Kurdish people and that makes violence erupts. . But all that are issues of education. wit right education Turkey will find the way.. but this may takes a few years, now i dont think turkey is ready for the E.U there are things that need to change yet..
