Credit Checks for Equal Opportunity Employment?

Here are all these jobs that claim to be so equal & blindly JUST. Then they run a CREDIT CHECK on you!!! The more Correct they try to be —the less correct they in fact become!

This is about as stupid as Corporations get. This is a segway from Drug testing for jobs & I searched All Forums & the threads here & beside the fact that it was burning in my bosom to be voiced, I couldn't find another place where it seemed to fit, so forgive me moderators, if I have sinned, please do not lock this topic, but see fit in your finite wisdom & ambient mercy to move it where it belongs for I am a lowly blogger in thy sight. Who needs a job more than somebody who is struggling to pay off their debt? Most of people's debts are from credit card companies that pass out cards like candy; they loan out money like Judas Priest & then after you have paid them many times over in Finance Charges, and they've gotten their money back, and you are struggling —they raise the interest on you (which has no ceiling) & almost break your legs in back-alley loan-shark style.

This is American, though. It is considered very Patriotic to allow this & even encourage it. And the Republicans are closing the Bankruptcy Loopholes almost completely as of October 1st of this year. If in Debt, get a lawyer, as the price of filing has quadrupled already & you won't even be able to get a job. But if you can't hide, you best be able to run. And don't leave a forwarding address...

Abolish the federal reserve! They own the banks which grant these credit card schemes. The feds are illegal. they are NOT a part of the govt but a private group of bankers! .... (oh forgive me this requires reading and research)

This is the type of shit that gets me fired up!! So, if Joe Schmo is in debt, then he has BAD credit, and in turn can't get a job?? That is why I say over and over again...THIS IS NOT A FREE COUNTRY...it used to be....but it isn't now, and it's getting worse..

How is someone supposed to pay off debt w/no job??

It should be downright Illegal for a company to hold a debt against an employee unless that employee is in debted to that company!!!!

BTW...skycanvas, equal opportunity employment is really just to ensure against discrimination of minorities.....the drug tests and background checks, credit checks, etc....those are the loopholes companies use to be able to discriminate against anyone they want...

Pretty soon they're gonna have something called a "Consumer Check"...just to make sure that you SPEND enough money....

Yes, they founded it on the back of Pilgrims who left England for good reason. Since taxation without representation didn't work, the Capitalists sought the other loophole: God & Country. Just like every President since. And it worked. They started a new company call "Made in USA"; abolished debtors prisons; freed the slaves & then they enslaved the free. They threw out the political incentives, campaign promises. Eventually AMERICORPSE had had to figure out some way to legally screw the little guy & this is it, yes, it is still a War, Boom, Bust, economy but in the background it is, thus: CREDIT.

As far as I can see, the ACLU or whoever aligns themselves with these type of causes ought to take this to the Supreme Fucking Court. What the Hell is Legal about doing a credit check on somebody who needs a goddamn Job! What do they want them to be doing, depending on the Welfare system (like you say) or standing on a street corner saying, "Will work for Food!" I've made the point before in Artist Forums that they'd rather that you stood there with a sign than to allow the municipalities to permit you to work on that corner. I'm pissed too. People need to wake up God dammit!

Of course it's getting harder to be legal. If they make Illegal & Immoral Laws who is going to obey them?

Laws should be like clothes, they should be designed for those whom they are meant to fit.

I just hung up the phone with her Matt. I'm convinced now, the only way to survive is flying low. This is not big business either, she's trying to get a customer service job in an office of a dept. (debt) store. But that's the lunacy of it all...sometimes the closer we are to the bottom, the worse they scrutinize us.

shortly after I made my voice known in this thread, I went out to apply for a job at a company that makes AUTOMOTIVE BRAKE PARTS (nothing to do with credit) and they had, stapled to the back of their application, a release form that would allow them to run a CREDIT CHECK!! I handed the form back to the guy, and told him to shred my application...I wasn't rude, I just informed him that I strongly disagreed with the practice, since I wasn't asking to borrow money, I was asking to EARN it!

What will they do to us next??? I am afraid to ask.....Geneology checks...to make sure that your great great grampa paid his bills and kissed the governments ass....damn maybe I shouldn't have given them the idea

 

I admire your courage for doing that. I've heard other people talk about things like refusing to work for companies that tested them for controversial substances, etc. But it takes guts to actually do that.

I think if people are not in the bondage of serious financial obligation; kids, credit, etc., then chances are you are their target demographic to get to —then you are their golden child, whom they want to hire. Fresh out of school, etc. They want to load you down with a ball & chain (like dad & grampa, only much bigger.)

That puts anyone like this in a great position to insult them by refusing to give information that is irrelevant to the job search & money earning process. Those things could catch on like wildfire, but obviously people are still not upset enough because they have been lulled into their false sense of security that everything is alright on the homefront since 'we are fighting terror abroad,' which is hogwash & about as phony a rhetoric as we've ever been fed.

Your post comes on the tail of another axe I am sharpening this morning. I'm not ignoring the Revolution here, but I may open another topic, since it doesn't exactly fit this theading. Globalism is pretty broad, so I guess the Stupid Economy should go under it. If not, I'm sure we'll find out. Can't see any other Forums that apply I looked & assessed that this was the right one. It seems they don't want to spin off more General Forum Topics because of the work involved, so I'm going to stay around Globalism.

 

It is a damn shame that for the most part the reason that things like credit checks for employment, wars on terror, the war on drugs, etc etc is allowed to go on is because
the people in our society today are too much in the habit of laying down and takin it up the ass! I think credit checks are pretty much along the same lines as drug tests - a complete violation of privacy.

The only case where I can mildly understand why an employer would want to see someone's credit is if the position they are hiring for requires the employee to handle large volumes of cash. I stress 'mildly' as even this seems a bit outlandish.

 

Well then, the next time you apply for a job and they hand you a release form for a credit check, politely hand it back and say "no thanks". BTW I think affirmitve action is outdated as well, I never fill out the race section because I feel that quota, of any kind are wrong and cause companies to discriminate even more than they would normally.

 

Yeah, I've read it. You can really see how George Orwell was just about right on that date. That was when the PC started to make its debut. This data storage device is the great enabler. Although I'm a computer buff, computers are like a knife, which can be used as a surgeon's tool or a murderer's weapon, neither inherently good nor evil. Good people will use things for good & evil people will play out the deceit of their hearts, right? While we're blogging away, they are busy somewhere, I'm sure. You are right about the Patriot Act. T5 can haul you away without trial. The only safety we have here is some basic anonymity, but not as much as we might think since our ISP's could turn us all in if BigGover started a Witch Hunt & the fact that we are speaking in a public forum which protects Free Speech of that nature. The Internet must be full of this stuff. They can't very well accuse us of veiled threats when it's down in b&w. So there's a great cloud of witnesses. Anyway, it must not be our time yet or it would have happened. We're their entertainment so as long as we're dancing as fast as we can, hopefully they'll be distracted by some monetary matters. I think you still have to either make a threat or be a threat. The potential for abuse is still in their favor by a landslide, but if they think they just have a bunch of stoners who make no sense they might consider us irrelevant & just watch the keywords. They can't stop web use since it's an international phenomenon. But BigGover is watching indeed. What else do they have to do when funded by our taxpayer dollars except fill in the roles of the movie, 'Stakeout.'

Still, it's a long way from here to Totalitarian Statehood. But the present admin has pushed the reactionary right about as far as it went in both WWI & WWII as far as protectionism goes. Have they ever thought about what they would do with all the National Guardsmen overseas if there were rioting & looting internally? While the average Joe is playing video games, they're racking up all the information they can about every last one on the planet. When they got computers that could had enough memory that could store all this stuff, which took a few years longer than Orwell predicted, then they started all this BS about 10 page employment forms with credit checks. They took it all a carte blanc to start sticking it to everyone like they're a piece of bar code & deserve a number tattooed on their foreheads. Hey, not far away. Maybe it's good to get busted for the truth before that.

Hey, yeah, don't you remember in the Book Big Brother was always fighting a war somewhere with someone. It was like, you have to suck it up & sacrifice for the war effort —all very patriotic. I totally agree but the reason why they check your credit is because people in debt are at a higher risk to steal since they don't have enough money to pay their bills.
