Ok, so the MakePovertyHistory campaign (which I'm sure you are all aware of by now) is running a massive event in Edinburgh on July 2nd. It is going to be massive, and is such an amazing oppotunity to get your voice heard! The security around Glen Eagles during the actual summit will be so intense, your real chance to have a successful peaceful protest is this event! All the info is here...http://www.makepovertyhistory.org/edinburgh/ There is lots of info about transport and accomodation on there too...really useful! Also, there is the oppotunity to apply to be a steward for the day too, which I'm sure they're going to need lots of! I'll be there for sure, and I'll be travelling up from Leeds I'd imagine, so anyone who wants to join me, please do. There is transport running from all over the place, so don't worry about that. I hope you all take this oppotunity to make a stand for such an important cause! Mercy x
Yep I'm up in that vague region all that week... What day are you going up? I think I should arrive on the 2nd. Does anyone know any good places to camp?
I think I will only be there for the day, as the transport I have found is coming back that night, but if you are there for 2nd, thats perfect. There are local campsites on the makepovertyhistory website, check it out in the accommodation section!
There's always Bilston glen, ten minute bus ride south (number 37 from North bridge to Penicuik {pronounced penny-cook}) Hotel de Kev is rather booked up already but I'll see how things pan out. If there's sillyness in the evening then no doubt comfortability can be thrown to the wind. ~
There were floors advertised too on the MPH website I think, you'll have to e-mail them to say you're interested of something and they'll find you some floor space. I may end up staying the whole week...just got a load of info through the post about all the events on in Scotland that week...looks amazing. The G8 Summer Festival they are calling it...and I can't resist a festival!
Thanks but I was thinking specifically of outdoors type places.. Bilston Glen is a good idea had forgotten about that! Perfect
I'll be down from Aberdeen for this. Not sure for how long though.. its not far so i can always commute! lol
If anyone is thinking of going up from Yorkshire let me know cos I really want to go up, have the car but not enough money for petrol on my own... If anyones wanting a lift and can chip in for fuel I think I'm gonna be off up Sat 2nd staying at Bilston Glen Protest Site then coming back down on Sat 9th
Oooo I may come along for the rid too. I probably won't be going for that long though, because I'm running a black and white summer ball in Harrogate to raise awareness for the MakePovertyHistory campaign on July 8th, so I'll have to be back a few days minute earlier to decorate and get last minute details sorted. If any of you want to come back up to Yorkshire for the ball, you're more than welcome...
Good on you Ms Mercy I'm skint as a very very skint thing at the moment, but if I can get to the ball I will (Where's my fairy godmother now huh? ) Will chat to you about it next weekend Claire xxx
There will be displays, petitions etc during the reception part of the ball, then a big buffet (don't worry, I'm sorting out vegan stuff) then hopefully a talk (either by myself or a guest speaker. Then it is just a damn good excuse to get pissed and have a good time! Anyway, I'll talk to you about it nearer the time...maybe I can arrange some sort of discount for Hipforumers
i'm proberly going there depending on the work situation and money we are coming up from portsmouth its a long way but well worth it lol. i didnt get tickets for glastonbury so this is as good as it gets lol. see you all there hopefully xxx
If anyone is going to be around from the 5th onwards and wants to meet up then let me know, im coming back from Glastonbury then and will be in edinburgh till the 10th. Doubt ill be at any of the protests though-hopfully ill have missed all that madness and my flat will still be intact! *hugs* Uma x
