Forget his comedy movies like Fahrenheit 9/11 and Canadian Bacon. As far as i'm concerned, those are just for entertainment purposes only, and I don't give a rats ass what he produces, and who buys it. What does concern me is that he sells hopelessness to people, who buy it up in droves. Take this quote, for example, from his book Stupid White Men; Listen, friends, you have to face the truth: you are never going to be rich. The chance of that happening is about one in a million. Not only are you never going to be rich, but you are going to have to live the rest of your life busting your butt just to pay the cable bill and the music and art classes for your kid at the public school where they used to be free. And it is only going to get worse. Forget about a pension, forget about social security, forget about your kids taking care of you when you get old because they are barely going to have the money to take care of themselves. So according to Mr. Moore, there are only 270 millionaires living in the United States. Hmmmm. To bad he's full of bullshit. The truth is that there are actually about 8 million people living in the United States who have a net worth of at least a millon bucks. So the real odds that Mikey talks about are more like 34/1. Yep that's right, just about 1 in every 34 people in the U.S. is a millionaire, and these aren't just Corporate CEO's and Trust Fund babies we're talking about. These are small business owners, and people living in your very own neighborhood who have bought their own house, saved & invested well. So don't buy Michael Moore's hopeless bullshit. If you do, you'll be living out a self-fullfilling prophecy, and you will be busting your ass to pay your cable bill and making rent for the rest of your life.
net worth is completely different than being a millionaire... you can have a net worth of a shit load and still be in debt. the fact that you'd actually say that net worth of a mil is the same thing as being a millionaire proves that you dont really know much.
besides not even referencing a source, and pulling numbers out your ass, you still fail to recognize that net worth is completely different.
Here's an actual source http://www.bainvestor.com/TheMillionaireNextDoor.html its funny, t hat ratio is not as good as the numbers you pulled out yer ass... and russians have more people with a net worth of a mil... they must be SOOOOOO well off, huh?
http://www.internationalpropertysolutions.com/Articles/WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.asp sure, saying that so many americans have a net worth of a mil SOUNDS good, but when reality sinks in it doesn't mean much.
ooh you changed it. He's fat!!! dont listen at all to that man, he is obese!!! *GASP* Like I said in another post... sure moore is biased, and you republican folk will just absolutely hate him... and sure SOME of his facts are distorted... but that doesnt mean you can rule out EVERYTHING in his documentaries.. he makes good points, and in other ways he makes bad ones... but running from michael moore, and calling everything... a bsolutely EVERYTHING he does and says stupid, a joke, or false, is simply idiotic. take everything with a grain of salt, but running from truth doesnt prove anything.
I see no difference between Moore and any propagandist for his own political viewpoints. His sneaky techniques (editing, splicing, etc.) have always been a part of good propaganda and the machine that runs it. Bush is corrupt, no doubt. Moore is a documentary filmmaker. I don't based my philosophy on Michael fucking Moore's films and anybody who does doesn't think for themselves. He is not 100% accurate and he is biased to his own beliefs. But, so are PENN & TELLER...my PERSONAL favorites!!!! Hey, THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT for you!
no matter the facts about how many millionaires there are in the US , i agree with his quote that you posted. depressing, it may be... but its really becoming the truth. moore is very cynical; it doesn't sound like you appreciate the cynical sense of humor over anything... No one's facts are ever going to be straight considering the fact that the government would never let their true secrets be released for public knowledge. i could care less about the numbers and statistical facts, Moore always seems to make a good point. and the fact that hes biased certainly doesnt bother me, because I agree
here's a difference: at least moore isnt telling people to support a regime that looks to Murder people and invade countries... He has his truths and at times he is wrong as well. Everyone is biased.... and mostly everyone uses the same techniques to help support THEIR view. I agree with that... I've came up with my philosophy long before bush was even elected. America didnt start to get shitty with the rise of bush, it's been shit for a very very long time.
Hello. This is a simple statement, and pretty accurate as I see it. Time to pull your head out of the sand. I am a proud member of the RBC (reality based community). Join us! or if you want, I guess you can go on hoping you'll be a millionnaire someday. ...as for selling hopelessness, you need to read closer and more strategically. Using context clues is an important reading strategy. If you try to take statements out of context, you A) won't understand, or B) will distort the intended message. I'll give you a clue: His point is that things are hopeless the way they are and that things must be changed lest we head too far down the dark path we are on and become completely lost. Yes, Moore is fat -- very fat! But he is not a soothsayer.
I believe that becoming a millionaire from the middle or lower class is as rare as Michael Moore says. It takes money to make money and all of that. Many welathy families groom their kids for a certain career and then place them with a company through people they know, if you don't have that, you probably won't be "rich"..but there are always exceptions.
I'm pretty liberal and I think Michael Moore is, in sum, a fuckbag. He's biased as hell, and some of his rants seem naive to me. What he sells to the masses is a disgusting type of ignorance, and pseudo-intellectuals eat it up. They watch his movie(s) cause they are too lazy to read a real book, and think they are political analysts.
If you're going to preach your view or views to people, only ignorants are going to listen to someone who is biased. Intelligent people want to see views from all sides of the battlefield to understand the full scope of what you're trying to get to them. America was founded on bullshit. If you plant ice, you're gonna harvest wind.
As far as politics go, I don't really make it a point to get involved with much of it.. "the science of power," It's just silly to me... I dunno I'm a hippie I guess. Politics to me seems like just an orgy of fat rich white men jerking off to wads of hundred dollar bills and gold bars, while they stuff their gords with pie and try to stuff yours with propaganda. It just bothers me to see legions of tools seeing Michael Moore movies and becoming political experts after, solely based on the small spectrum of information presented to you on THE SILVER SCREEN. These are just bricks in the wall, gears in the machine... useless people who yearn to have shit spoon-fed to them, without ever once questioning what's in the food. It's not like I could listen to anyone who isn't biased in the first place anyways, because by the time anything hits the media it has been biased in one way or another. Also, I don't have any "connects" in Congress or anything like that (lol), so it's pretty impossible to get the full picture of any political events.
No one can be 100% objective. I think people are too hard on Michael Moore. It isn't like he doesn't know what he is doing. Like a preacher preaches with a bias towards god, Michael Moore preaches with a bias towards liberalism. For all the Bill O'Riley's and Rush Limbaugh's the right wing has got out there acting like pompus hypocritical assholes, at least Moore has a half decent sense of humor and practices what he preaches. Can't say that for the conservative mouthpeices.
liberalism and conservativism are not simply different points of view or different philosophies. They are not equally valid. This is a lie that the conservatives have been trying to sell on college campuses and in the fake media. The truth is that conservatives don't care about people - they care about money and power and the preservation of the status quo. And this is wrong. Not simply a point of view, but an aggressive offensive against the underclass. "America, land of the free. Whoever told you that is your enemy".
