I'm wondering becuase I got them, but my friends who put them in did a TERRIBLE painful horrible job, so I had to take them out (which too was painful) so now whenever I see a pic of someone with dreads, i kind of get pretty sad, so I was wondering if anyone had any bad dread stories that could make me feel a bit better.....
I had some dreads that came from not combing my hair for a long period of time. I have this thick, curly/wavy hair, and I didn't see a need to comb it. Well, sure enough, I started to notice "knots" popping up and dreading together. Damn, I remember getting them out HURT LIKE HELL!!! Sorry this didn't really help, but that's my minimal experience. Haha...
holy shit the same thing happened top me! my friend didnt do the back good so i always had my hair up for like 2 weeks then i decided to take them out wich took forever and was painful and i thought i was ganna do them again but i never did. now i miss them and whenever i see someone w/ dread i get sad and jealous haha i want them back sooooo bad!! so this probably didnt make you feel better but it was weird cuz the same exact thing happened haha. you should get them again! i think i might. just have someone else do it that kinf of knows what they are doing peace~
I had dreads for a while, they got really stinky though so I shaved 'em all off. I'm not sure if that's a bad dread story but they were pretty damn stinky and gross.
OK, here goes my story.... I had dreads about ten years ago. I didn't get them "put in" but let them grow naturally, only helping with a bit of twisting and seperating the strains so they don't form one big lump on the head. It took more than a year until they were proper dreads and they were half way down my back and looked great. I was travelling in NZ at that time and stayed with some people that were primary school teachers. From there I went to Australia to visit a friend. In her house I used conventional schampoo for the first time in years and afterwards my head started itching like mad. I blamed it on the chemicals in the schampoo, but the itching didn't stop. Then I got notice from the people in NZ that they had a lice problem in the school they were working and that some of them got it too. Only then I checked my dreads and by that time they were full of lice and eggs. I tried everything to get rid of them, but it didn't work, so in the end I had to cut them off and get my head shaved. I was crying for days, it was terrible. Hope that makes you feel better now
Haha...good to know I'm not alone! I don't know how I'd look with a head full of dreads. I'm very interested, though.
you should check out the dread forum in the personal forums area. it's called Knotty Know-How. very helpful.
I had dreads, I used beeswax in them and a bunch of fuzz from my sweater got stuck in them and I think they grew mold it was pretty nasty
sadly, or thankfully, I suppose, no bad story here. I actually had dreads throughout highschool, but a lot of the hair got so nappy and dry that some of the dreads fell off, and I had to shave my head. It was kind of funny having such long nice dreads all that time and the day of graduation, I show up bald.
