I am really interested in visiting Cuba. Does anyone have any experiences to share? What is it like there? Is it safe to travel there and does anyone know of any travel programs I could get involved in.

Your very safe in cuba, it never had a problem with crime and thats before or after castro how ever your money well go to keep castro in power Fidel well be very happy if you spend your canadian money there . you well swim in nice beaches were comon regular cubans are not allowed.. actually is a very good experience sort of like germany in 1938. execpt the cubans are the jews. and castro hitler with a elite ss and gestapo units.

I know a guy who's taken a few trips to Cuba - and he likes it. I think I might take a trip with him one of these days. :)

I really want to go to Cuba to study there. I mean, I know it's impossible because I'm a US citizen, but I really want to study and help out the people in any way I can. Not that I'd be able to do much because of Castro, but I could at least do something.

The first thing you do is not going at all . the more money you spend there the longer castro survives. also the standard of living in cuba is like back in the 1930s. and kiss yours or any computer good buy. only the state & state workers in hotels might use one.

SpliffVortex is right, going over there will only help Castro stay in power and the Cuban citizens will never see a penny.

Castro will stay in power regardless of whether there is tourism there or not. The day his power ends will more than likely be the day he dies. It's the same situation as Spain was in during the 30s- 70s with Franco except Americans were allowed to travel there, and travel they did.

I've been to cuba, stayed there for one month.. I went with a friend and we travelled round the whole country.. It's the most beautiful place I've every been to.. The people are sooo friendly and there is music everywhere..
Don't stay in hotels, there are casa familias everywhere in every city. You stay with people in their home and you can eat there and sleep there for very little money. This way you can experience the real cuba.. Don't go to the tourist places like vedado, it's indeed a place where normal cubans can't go.. you don't want to support this.. But it's a beautiful country with beasutiful and friendly people who'll do anything for you.. You'll be salsa dancing in no time.. :) Damn as I talk about it I really want to go back..
You can find the history of the country on every street corner, it's really fascinating..

But like every country it had it's problems.. there is crime in the big city, we got robbed ourselves in Havana and had to stay in the police station a whole day because they wanted to know every detail, we even had to go back to the place it happend.. This means they take it very very seriously, but it takes a lot of time.. So if nothing important or nothing much is stolen my advice is not to go to the police. It will take you one or maybe two days..

Visit the big city's but spend most your time in the country, you'll not be disappointed.. Baracoa was my favourite place, beautiful nature.. And Trinidad is also very beautiful, but there are a lot of tourists there..

I hope I helped you by giving this information. You can always PM me if you want to know more cause I love the country and am always happy to talk about it.

I've heard Cuba is very nice place to go. I've never been there myself, but I do plan on going after I'm allowed to leave Ontario. Accually I was planning to go a few years ago but my marriage break up left me cash poor. Hopefully I'll get there in the next year or two.

Your right. Castro is gonna be in power whether people go for tourism or not because people there fear him and respect him at the same time. Even when he dies his brother Raul is gonna go in power and then everyone is gonna wish fiddell was still alive because raul is the worst.
