Either the government has a role in saying what weapons we have available or it doesn't.The right to bear arms is an open statement that could include anything from aluminum bats to nuclear warheads,so where do we draw the line?When the constitution was drawn,they didn't have the high powered weaponry that we do today,nor did we have the skills to mass manufacture them.We either have to accept that government has a role in their control or we'll be overrun by whoever can afford the latest and greatest weaponry.
As for guns and drugs my crack pipe doesn't give me power over another individual,your "right"to own guns takes away my right and my children's right to live in a safe and peaceful world.

I do want to demolish the pro-gun (and pro-violence) argument, about "defending ourselves from our government," once and for all. Do you really think that you could defend yourself from a government that would be willing to bring tanks against you, and that also has lots of high-tech goodies at its disposal? And don't forget, the press and most of the public just absolutely adore the Prez, so don't look for help from that department. You might be able to hold out for a while, but you can't win that way. The real battle is for people's hearts and minds; start by freeing yourself. And don't forget -- Gandhi was able to take on the British, without resorting to violence.

Anyway, minorities (including gays like myself) have been getting shot at, beat up, etc. for quite a while, legal or not. A gay friend of mine, recently from FL, says that it's a great place to be from. Just forget about living there -- or in most of the rest of this full-of-itself country, for that matter. (Yes, if I could afford it, I would have already been checking out a move to Europe or Canada -- they still have just a tiny bit of sanity left!)
