Yesterday after listening to anitwar music for a while, I decided to state my thoughts. I put up a sign where everyone could see it; "STOP IRAQ WAR". Does the general public really care, though? We can see the signs everywhere, all the time, and no matter what the views, most people don't care. My grandma calls it fat, happy, and dumb. Since people have their personal wants taken care of, they are apathetic to things that don't affect them much. How long can we continue to be apathetic? In The Electric Koolade Acid Test Ken Kesey talks to a crowd of Vietnam protesters, and says that the only way to change things for real is to say "fuck it" and walk away (there's more to it, but it's most of the idea). How far should the people walk, though? I don't really know how we should get people going about the war, but there has to be some answer. In the meantime, I'll keep putting up my signs. Things might just change and people will get passionate about them!
I'm afraid a sign isn't really going to do much, but it's definitely a start. At least you're vocal about it, so you're ahead of most people. But if we really want this shit over with, we've gotta take it to the streets. Bring the war home, so to speak. You could litter your yard, and the yards of everybody on the block, with signs, but I'm afraid it really won't do much. The only way we're going to change the apathy is by getting something started. If you want something done right, you've got to do it yourself. Get a group of friends, start a local anti-war group started. Start a petition, start a protest rally. Get your asses on TV and in the newspaper Peace
I don't know. Just take one step at a time. My friend Allan says Keep on keepin on. Real deep, huh? But it's true. That's what I do in the world
