In the Qur'an, how are the passages concerning the Holy Spirit addressed? i.e. sura 2:87 "To Moses We gave the Scriptures and after him We sent other apostles. We gave Jesus son of Mary veritable signs and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit." Christians argue this is the third element of the Trinity of God. What is this Holy Spirit then for Muslims? Thanks
muslims feel the 'fruits' of their faith throughout their day - throughout their life. i guess those fruits - comfort and peace enduced by faith - might be interpreted as being the holy spirit in a way... the oneness obtained with praying, and the 'right path' built by their religion beliefs which the faith and [spirit] is taking them. ? that might be a stretch, but i'm just going with it. one of the 5 pillars (the 5 solid actions of faith one must obide, i gues syou can say) is to pray 5 times a day... in many muslim cities, breaks are taken throughout towns to pray, as the sufi or mosque (sp?) leader sings his beautiful prayers. the other pillars are followed, and just reassure the faith, just like any ceramony or practice of faith - especially when done in community if this efficient. the holy spirit is in every christian who wants to embrace it... it is "given to you" in catholic belief with baptism, if i recall... the holy spirit is with one who is following the path of riteousness? living a 'good' or 'correct' life. but i personally believe this "holy spirit" is just the fruits of "the light"... now, the light (aka holy spirit) gives whomever nutures this light grace... many religions have their interpretations of nuturing such light, and so do the muslims... their grace is obtained through submission to their god. it's not as nasty as it sounds... this submission does enduce some great moral, but many of the scriptures of the qur'an might be interpreted in ways that enduce some bad morals just as well... just like christianity, just like many religions - but only in perspective, you must keep in mind... inside the culture, such morals and behaviors are learnt assumption, and part of life... the muslims interpreted their scriptures (or some muslims choose to) as allowing everybody to accept islam (which is simply just one interpretation of understanding God, and being led by his grace), however see the other WAYS OF LIFE that differ from the strict preachings of Muhammad's visions of proper way of life (who was blessed by a meeting with the angel Gabriel) as being AGAINST theirs, or at least endangering God's will and word. Those who accept islam live in beautiful grace and peace within the muslim community, however cultural crossings is why we have any conflict in the first place, huh? =P I'm just a college student who took a little anthropology of religion last semester =P i love this stuff so much, it's great. I too am very very very interested in The Holy Spirit... I am touched by it, i believe, through nature and kindness; ultimately. maybe from a God i cannot even begin to understand, as i just stand amazed on this earth that we're blessed with, inevitably as i stand there... I don't know if it's because i know i'm not going to be wasting my soul by punching in hours for the man, or if it's because i try to not make anyone else's life any harder then it unfortunately might be, or even the help i give them when they find themselves in hard times... but the holy spirit might be simply a word that i found myself putting ontop these subjective feelings of grace... but grace is just the word i put ontop of being happy knowing i'm living the life i'm supposed to be, as Ethan =) Many dogma's might have this path written out for those willing to follow, or those born into it and - yeahhh. I believe the holy spirit exsists OUTSIDE of dogma, inside ourselves and our soul, our spirit... I don't believe their are any laws that must be obided to embrace the spirit - besides keeping faith.... in whatever it is you choose it to be. much much love, i hope i helped a little... if there is more to it, i appologize for not covering it, but definitelyyy didn't think i knew all there was... we never do, on much of any topic =) that's why we must always look for new perspective, and continue to grow. peace
Yes...this is what my Muslim friend told me. But if Gabriel is the Holy Spirit, then when there is a verse like the one I quoted, where Jesus is "strengthened by the Holy Spirit", does it mean that Gabriel serves as a kind of "guardian angel" watching over him? Thanks for your help
if you look at all the crazy cults and religions most of them get their members by using the old feel the holy spirit dodge . the heavens gate cult all felt this holy spirit to such a extent that they were all happy to kill themselves including the founder, and you would have thought that he would have known it was all false . This shows that feelings of spirit are a very poor means of finding if a religion is true or not .
