Hearing an American say the word 'Maori' or for that matter ANY Maori word is something I have always found totally hilarious. They pronounce it all so crazy hehe.
i would use NEITHER of those pronunciations. this is the offical pronunciation of the word (from the dictionary ) (mour) if that doesn't make sense then it is effectivly "Mou Re" (roll the "R" 2 time, not re re. but just a rolled r) hope that helps. Doug
thanks, i've had fun trying to pronounce some of the maori words you all have posted , it hasnt been pretty haha
yeah, the bit on zoolander where they talk about the may-or-ri tribesman always has my flatmates and I in hysterics
OMG zoolander is like my Hero. OoooooOo i love that movie, it was so ahead of its time, so misunderstood. and yet so vain Doug
speaking of zoolander, i just saw dodgeball on friday..has ben stiller and his wife(who was also in zoolander i believe).....really funny
ben stiller and own wilson are the absolutle shit. I love them to bits - and zoolander...so many good quotes "can I call you matil?" (that one still hasn't died in our flat) "what is this, a centre for ants?...it will have to be at least [pause] three times that size" "I think I've got the black lung pop" *then those feeble coughs* and my brothers favourite part, about being on Mt Vesuvius - classics nerds rejoice
Mow-ree (rhymes with cow) is the most common but Anglicised pronounciation. I think More-ree is closer to correct.
