This one just hit me. Tvs are a lot like people. An old instuctor of mine once said the most fascinating things about tv repair is that it encompasses all technologies. Analog, digital, resonant, free-running, DC to 4.5 MHz and up as far as the cable co wants to push it. The Tuner is always looking for something to pick up on. Anywhere on the band. Then when it finds something it likes it sends it to the IF, which is rather narrow-minded but does a great job when it's concentrating. IF tells the Video what, where, and how much, but Video also wants to have feedback. How bright, how sharp, how much color and what colors. It asks these from both the broadcasting station and from the viewer. From there the Vertical and Horizontal take over. They only do what they're told, when they're told, however nowadays they seem to exibit a mind of thier own occasionally. The Vertical is a little slower, and doesn't have as much depending on it, but is still a vital benefactor. Horizontal runs like a madman, always has the most pressure, always having to bring up the High Voltage, and since the revolution, now has to do most of Power Supply's job also. But the party wouldn't be complete without Sound. It just sits there and absorbs off the signal what it needs, yet giving Tv's forbearance it's cinematic appeal. I'm wondering now if I should have tried to think more like the Camera when I had the chance. Or better yet the Satellite.
