I've wanted to get dreads for some time now. My hair has been long since I was about 10, and I've wanted them ever since them. The problem is, my hair is super thin. I mean super thin.. whispy as hell, and perfectly straight. I'm afraid if I try to get dreads, it will just end up looking like crap because 1- my hair is too thin. 2- I don't have enough of it 3- I don't think it's long enough. I don't want any skinny little dreads.. I want some fat long ones, unfortunately I don't have the hair for it. Which brings me to my second problem.. my hair doesn't grow. At least I dont think it does. It's been about the same length for ...oh.. over 7 years. I've had it trimmed every once in a while, (like maybe once a year) and that doesn't seem to do anything. It just grows back to the same length (a couple inches past my shoulders) and stops. Everyone tells me my hair doesn't grow because I have split ends, and I don't get it trimmed enough.. well I don't think that's the case. Besides my hair grows really slow. Maybe I have malnutrition or something. I don't know.. what do you guys think? Can hair be too thin for dreads? Have any tips for helping your hair grow? I'm only 23.. I want to enjoy my hair while I still have it.
well....I had dreads for a couple months (I have pretty icky hair myself) and I hated it...yeah, I looked terrible....so I got rid of them....but hey, it might be different for you. I have hair that drows REALLY slow, and I believe they make shampoo to help it grow, and also I think that if you can find it, a combination of certain vegtables in a veggie drink can do something.....hope that helps...
any type of hair will dread, but some types are harder than others. you can find lots of info about the best ways to dread online.
isnt there some kind of volumising shampoo from loreal or something? My hair is pretty thick and i wish it was thinner lol
you should check out the dreadlock forum! it's under the personal forums, and it's called the Knotty Know-How
The folks who tell you that your hair doesn't grow cause of split ends are right, or atleast partially right. Your hair is growing, but the split ends cause it to break off, so untill you get them taken care of, your hair will not get any longer, trust me. If you really want dreads, cut your split ends off, wait a month or two, and dread up. I mean really, if you want dreadies just do it, worst case scenario is you hate them and either cut them out or comb them out, how bad is that really? I mean, it's just hair, it grows! good luck :0)
I've had dreads for about 3 or 4 months now and i love them..my hair is thick but i think it would work for you if you dread them up reallll good good luck peace Megs
couldn't tell you...i was planning to get my hair really long after i last cut it but then my mom got my hair cut shorter than when the last time it was short and im really bummed about that
hey man, nothing personal and all that, just mentioning original 60s hippies didn't do dreads so if your hair won't do dreads, dont worry about it! just do what comes naturally. dont get me wrong, not against dreds, just if ya can't do it, don't sweat it. LOL
You may want to check out www.knottyboy.com They sell products for dreads, but they have info. and instructions on doing dread locks. Good luck, whatever you do!
Don't know whether you call him a hippie or not, but I'm pretty sure Bob Marley had dreads in the 60s:H
