Does anyone know any good music festivals similar to bonnaroo around florida? Or in florida, this guy i met in new orleans told me there were a bunch but i forgot the names of them all.

Also anyone who's been to bonnaroo, is it true thats it's kinda like woodstock in that you could probablly get in with out paying $170? J/w because me and my friends wanted to go but don't really feel like paying 170$ each.

    Thx.

We had Merlefest here a few weeks back, which is a pretty big festival. You can get into pretty much any festival for free if you can find out what vendors will be working and seeing if you can volunteer to help them out, and in trade get free access to the show.

they had Langerado back in March i think, i wanted to go but it's a good little hike from south carolina. about bonnaroo.. if you went there and tried to get a ticket you probably could get in cheaper, the only thing is don't jump on the 1st offer for tickets you get because the closer you get the more people are willing to sell tickets, or check on e-bay you can usually get them cheaper on there sometimes..

I think the poster was probably just trying to target his post at droppers by posting it here.

Exactly, the only reason me and my friend are going to roo is for lsd, so we're trying to find a way in. Or atleast that's the only reason he's driving me. I happen to love the music. But some psychedelics don't hurt! lol.

If that really is the only reason, please stay home... that's what the music fans want, a bunch of stoned seventeen year olds overcrowding the place only looking to score cid... dosing at shows is awesome and whatnot, but FFS go to a smaller fest in your area if that's all you're looking for.

This is the opposite to what is often said: if you want to enjoy the music of a festival, go to a smaller festival because large ones like Bonnaroo have been corrupted.

Since Bonnaroo has started it has been plagued by drug use. Bonnaroo is so large that this was somewhat inevitable: drug use thrives with anonymity.

It seems going to Bonnaroo would be as good a bet as any for scoring, if not better because of the notoriety.

The crowd issue will always be a problem at Bonnaroo not because of any particular segment there but because of the nature and reputation of the festival.

Drug use has always been associated with the counterculture: take away the drugs and a lot of people wouldn't even be interested in the counterculture. Take away the LSD and what's Phish and the Grateful Dead?

What about the hardcore music fans who are intravenously injecting themselves with heroin in front of children? A couple of seventeen year olds going to the festival and getting stoned is pretty much what to expect at a place like Bonnaroo. Bonnaroo without drugs is like Christmas without Christmas presents. ;)

The bigger festivals are a different type of experience, both small and large fests are centered around the music, the drugs come along with ANY show.

Drug use thrives everywhere, it just so happens that a lot of music fans and drug users are one in the same.

Actually, you're more likely to score bunk at big shows and fests than smaller ones.

I am not one of those people; drugs are another part of my life. The culture I am a part of is also one other aspect of my life. Maybe you should meet some more heads IRL to expand your view on the culture. I don't even want to respond to the last sentence lol.

Are you sure these are hardcore music fans? Sounds like hardcore drug fans to me.

Yea it's obviously happening everywhere, and I didn't mean to seem like I think drugs shouldn't be at shows. I do drugs, they're everywhere at shows, whatever. But going to a festival, JUST to score some cid? That's kind of stupid.

It could work both ways, I suppose.

Yes, just for the cid, it's stupid. But hardly anyone goes just for the cid. I like music, I enjoy traveling, I like new experiences.

But there's nothing wrong with making cid a high priority. For example, a lot of people might say: "To go to the Netherlands, just for the drugs? It's stupid." But the drugs attract a lot of tourists, and it has fostered a unique experience in the Netherlands. I appreciate many things about the country, but without the drugs, I probably would have gone to Buenos Aires or somewhere else for some different reason. ;)

I totally agree. Man, I am so sick of teenage assholes coming to festivals just for drugs.

Listen kid, whoever it was that started this thread,go get wasted by yourself. Bonnaroo and EVERY music festival is about MUSIC. It's people like you that ruin it. You bring more cops, you bring ignorance, and you taint something that's supposed to be beautiful.

And it's not just Bonnaroo. Summer Camp was just as corrupt and evil.

You ask about how to get in for free. I wish I could shove my fist down your throat for that. Do you have any idea about how much it costs to put a festival like that together? Any? How would you like it if that was your job and punk kids like you were taking away from the rest of the kids who are more than glad to pay to see bands they love. What the fuck is wrong with paying for what you get? Why is it cool to steal and act like some gutter rat? Attitudes like this just disgust me.

Well put headymoe... spoken with the passion and conviction of a seasoned pro! People like you make the scene. It's people like Neobob187 that break it.

It quickly got bad when the N2O tanks of "hippy crack" began showing up. I remember watching lines of locals just suck down balloon after balloon until their wallets ran dry.

The scene goes through cycles. For me, spring and fall were the purest and highest energy tours. Summer tour just draws so many people that are there for the wrong reasons while on the flip side, the winter shows absolutely killed. I never did any of the much hyped New Year's runs, but when they were on the road during the off-season, the diehards were always there! 1990 spring and winter are still among my personal favorites. The absolute mecca was seeing the Jerry Band.

The shows for the most part, continued downhill after Brent died and Hornsby faded away. There were a couple specific venues I chose to boycott entirely, no matter how close to home. I quickly became much more selective of which ones to attend and it was always worth the extra mile!
