Jakarta — An Indonesian court on Friday convicted an Australian beauty school student of smuggling marijuana on Bali island and sentenced her to 20 years in prison, drawing cries of outrage from relatives at a trial that attracted massive attention in Australia. Schapelle Corby, 27, who insists she is innocent and that the drugs were planted in her luggage, wept as the verdict was announced and mouthed “Just relax” to her parents. Her mother Rosleigh Rose yelled out “liar, liar” while other relatives yelled “We are going to get you home. All that does is keep the Indonesian people poor, so you can feel good about yourself and make believe you're actually making a positive contribution to Indonesia. Indonesia is a democracy; if you want to change the human rights situation, go campaign for change.
I just hope that the travel agents follow through with what they were saying and boycott Bali. Not just not recommend, but refuse to organise trips to Bali. Even if she was guilty, which I don't believe she is, it's disgraceful that she gets 20 years while someone like Amrozi only got three. Justice system? I think not

So how do you feel about the US goverment who's been boycotting its neighbour Cuba for over 40 years just because they want to live differently to the US culture of greed and competition? You are right, it does'nt change the situation but it sends a strong message that we, the rest of the world, do no agree with such insane politics to put in jail a woment for 20 years because she carries dry flowers with her from a country to another. .
I do my best. "They" don't want that, only Castro and his cronies want that. With that being said, I'm 100% against the embargo on Cuba. Cuba needs MORE trade with America to improve the quality of life for its people. The embargo has accomplished nothing for 40 years, but it has given Castro a convenient excuse for his country's poor economic performance. There are other methods of sending that message, that don't involve putting someone out of work who had nothing to do with it. It's very unlikely (since this particular boycott is unlikely to gain much traction, even in Australia) that anyone except you would ever connect that economic loss to the political act you're referring to. Since Indonesia is a democracy, wouldn't a more effective way of sending that message be to campaign over there for a change in the drug laws, or by joining an organization like Amnesty International that campaigns for human rights worldwide?
Cuba already has trade with America, with almost every country in South America, with Mexico and Canada as well. Stop calling your country America. Your country has no name, it's probably why it has no morales.

How does boycotting Bali help Schappelle? How does driving the Balinese further into poverty help Schappelle? I am going to Bali and a few other Indonesian Islands in a few weeks and I cant wait I was devestated by the guilty verdict and I believe in my heart Schappelle is innocent. I have cried for this girl that I have never met, but I don't believe boycotting Bali is helping anyone.
