so i did a poject for geography about the rain forest..heres sum facts:

*20 percent of the worlds oxygen comes from the amazon alone...
*1/5 of the worlds fresh water comes from the amazon
    * 80 percent of the timber being exported from brazil is illegal
    * when milled, 70 percent of a tree is wasted
    * it is estimated that 130 species disapear everysingle day
*since the 1970s, an area the size of france has dissapeard
*if deforestation continues like it is, the amazon might dissapear within 40 years
*if the rain forests dissapear then over half of the worlds species of plants, animals, and insects will dissapear also

I agree, the Rain Forest is a very important ecosystem, and needs to be protected.

But some of your facts are inaccurate.

The Amazon is one of the most diverse ecosystem in the world, but doesn't comprise anywhere near half of the millions of species on earth.

I also don't know where you got 20% of oxygen comes from the Amazon.

98% of atmospheric O2 is produced by phytoplankton.

It depends were you look lodui (i suppose) ?.

    The lungs of the earth
If the Amazon region were a country, it would be the ninth largest on earth. Covering more than 1 billion acres-two-fifths of the South American continent-the vast Amazon rain forest crowns nine nations: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela. The most bioactively diverse region on the planet, the Amazon is our greatest natural resource. Because it continuously recycles carbon dioxide into oxygen, the forest has been dubbed the "lungs" of the earth. The Amazon, in fact, produces more than 20% of the oxygen we breathe.

Rainforests cover less than 2% of the Earth's surface, yet they are home to some 40 to 50% of all life forms - as many as 30 million

Quite frightening isn't it, especially when you consider the disregard most of the world seems to have for the Amazon.

just thought i would add that much of the deforestation is because they want more farming lands for cattle...its becuase of ppl's unnessesary desire for meat that is also depleting the rainforests

The rain forest sucks, cut it down. No, I am just joking. Its a good thing that I will be dead, or atleast older, by the time the Earth is so messed up it becomes uninhabitable. Unfortunatly, we can't govern the people in Brazil.

well i learned back in school that the Brazilian goverment doesn't really do much about the amazon, because firstly the country is still developing, and if they can get money easily, then well i guess selling wood and all that is the only way
