to tat over black ink? I want to cover up the butterfly on my back....its not HUGE but its not a tiny one either and it's all black and mostly tribal. I tried taking a pic but it was too dark. I would like it done over with somthing colorful....blues, reds, greens, etc. Anyone done something similar or know if it's even possible? I'm going to get an "evaluation" from a tat artist of course, but the place I want to go is over an hour away so I thought I"d ask everyone's opinon here.

Black ink can fade over time or can be faded with certain chemicals as said by a tattooing mate but instead of driving all over just do a ring around. You'll get the general idea of what can be done. If it's small that's better too, you'll have more options according to my friend :) Good luck mate

The only inks that will coverup a tattoo are darker inks. With blacks, that, sorry to say, means you're kinda SOL.

Anyway, you can either try to incorporate the tattoo into a design that camouflages it, or you can try laser/chemical removal. If you laser it off to a point, you will be more successful at covering it up.
    Peace

    thanks for the replies......
black would cover black but it's a good size tat and I cant think of a way to cover it with black without it looking like a big black blob which i don't want. I've also been trying to think of a way to incorporate it into something else but to no avail. i hate that damn butterfly:$

Depending on how big it is, you could use it as the centre of a sun or something? A pentagram or celtic design that has a distinct centre? :)

Sorry to shit on your ideas guys but black tattoos can be covered( i do it all the time). If you incorporate the dark shading over the tattoo then it will work, that way you can still get your color tattoo. And of course you could always get a solid black over it as well, but i could really tell if you posted a pic.
