I'm looking for some psychology books to read for this book I plan on writing called "In a Manic State of Mind." The book is going to be about my experiences with bi-polar disorder and how it effects me. I'm including things like how meds and drugs affects the disorder, how your morals can change when you're in a manic episode, how bi-polar can effect your relationships with family, friends, girlfriend/boyfriend, and creativity you can creat when you're depressed or manic. I just ordered Manic-Depression and Creativity by D. Jablow Hershman and Julian Lieb, M.D today. I have a few books in mind already like Under the Influence by John D. Goldhammer and Out of our Minds by Sascha Garson. If anyone could recommend me some books I'd appreciate it.
Hey Joker, There's an English book called "Kith and Kin" edited by Barry Tebb from Sixties Press in the UK.Barry's wife and son both have severe mental health problems and the book deals with their experiences in the mental health system, the nature of their "disorders" (for the want of a better word),the impact on family relationships etc. There's also some stuff by friends and acquaintances of theirs who've had similar experiences.Sounds like it might be what you're looking for.The email address you need is sixtiespress@blueyonder.co.uk .Try them if you're interested.
I like reading books about the brain. That's where all that stuff starts, in your brain. "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life" was one that I read. My son has had problems dealing with school and peers. He was diagnosed obsessive compulsive personality. It sucks to trying to get some help. Psych doctors are real good at taking your money, sending you to therapy which doesn't really seem to help my kid's situation much. They get you addicted to anti-depressants and then tell you that you shouldn't smoke dope or take a zanax. Seems backwards to me.
Well, I can't argue with ya on that one. Ya know the psych ward is nothing, but a big game. all ya do is tell them you're feeling better and they'll let you out. ya do got a point.
you could use my psychology textbook??? haha its called "Psychology: Themes and Variations" 6th edition. its a big fat textbook, but i have read the whole thing and could explain the parts you have difficulty on.
