When I move my little clones...(in 1 1/2" rockwool)...to the soil medium, do I have to keep a lot of humidity around them? They're still "under the dome" at the moment, but almost all of them have plenty of roots and are ready to move on. This is my first time at all this...so any info and suggestions I greatly appreciate. TKS
hey trader...you may need to gradually harden them off from the dome, though if they are rooted well, shouldn't be necessary. Personally, I never keep the dome on cuts that long. 1 week at most, for the humidity dome. If they do start to show signs of suffering, wilting, a light misting of plain ph adjusted water should perk them right back up.
Thanks. I have been lifting the dome a bit; it's now about 2" off the base. I live in a VERY dry area...20 - 30% humidity...so I didn't want to shock them. And as I understand it, I'm supposed to clip the little teeny dead leaves off...?? Now for the transplant! I'm supposed to leave them under the fluorescent lights for awhile, right? TKS
Your biggest danger is allowing the moisture in the rockwool to drop to low. The soil may suck the cubes dry (instead of the other way around), so watch them closley and don't assume the rockwool is wet enough just because you watered. A few days, the roots will have spread out in to the soil and the danger is past. Use of Flouro's is safest untill this point, simply because of the heat factor. NEVER clip leaves off Unless they are damanged by bug infestation or nuit failure. "Dying" leaves ar actually the plant removing useful chems and using them in another part of the plant.
Thanks. I'm transplanting to really high-end potting soil...so the moisture retention should be good. Gosh...I wish I could send these clones thru the mail...what an unbelievable mother plant they came from. It's "heads and shoulders" over the others. TKS.
