Man i loved this yellow flower fabric so much im so sad i have close to none left. Anyways this is my first time doing an applique...aside from a lame sun i did a few months ago....It puckers a bit in certain spots, but i'm still pretty proud of it. I have a question though....... i read in this book called Sewing Short Cuts, and it says to use typing paper underneath your applique...i did this and it worked A LOT better than doing it without anything...it puckered way less, and it was way easier to control, but i still found that it puckered in some spots, especially at the really curved parts, and at the ends....what am i doing wrong? My tension is fine, and i'm using the paper underneath....what else could it be? what do you guys usually have your upper tension set at?? I really shy away from appliques cuz they usually discourage me cuz i've fucked them up whenever i'm practicing and stuff....any tips and advice would be reaaaaaally appreciated :&
well i like it..that yellow fabric is adorable..... I have found that my appliques pucker when my stitches are too close together...I am HUGE on the bonding paper...i think it is called Heat and Bbond..it has made my appliques better i think...easier to sew em on at least.. i set my tension at 5 on top
wow im in love with it!!! its super vintage looking.........i love yer tase maaam. keep em coming....
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODD! i love it i love it i love it i love it!!!! I LOVE IT! I WANT IT! u gonna sell it??! ill take it! i want it!
what kind of fabric are you using? make sure that the width of the stitch isnt too thick. some fabrics just dont go well with appliques. use thin thread also
That's *wonderful*!!! The way my grandma taught me to do appliques is totally different than what everyone else does. She use to sew two pices of fabric all the way around, then she would cut a slit in the backing and pull the whole thing right side out, iron, and zig zag not even satin stitch with the uncut side up. Don't know if that makes any sort of sense, but it's different and although it's great if you're going for dimensional appliques it's not so hot if you're going for flat sorts of appliques. :/
I love how earthy it is, man I wish I had my sewing machine up and working, I want to show some stuff off, lol
ohh it is so pretty! As for appliques..thin fabric is a pain to applique on unless you have some sort of stabilizer. I use the stitch n tear stuff
First off, I love the skirt, especially that yellow fabric! My mum's friend (who is my official sewing teacher) told me that when doing appliques, to "iron the hell out of everything" beforehand and to keep the fabric REALLY taut (though not stretched out or anything) when you're actually sewing it on there. Uh, I'm not an applique genius myself, so I'm just passing on what she said (which seemed to help me do my first one pretty decently). And to hide the puckering.. Just start dancing and don't stop No one will notice.
The flower fabric looks very pretty! It kinda looks like an old bedsheet we have at home, but I`m not sure where it is or if if it´s still here...
awww thanx everyone!!!! I would love to put it on ebay, but i don't feel it's good enough quality to sell....i stitched it really well, but the appliques are puckery, i wouldn't want anyone to be dissapointed. I have a ton of the brownish-redish fabric left, if i could just find some more of the flower print sheets. Those are AWESOME!!!! Then i could make a couple more customs. Anyways, thanx a lot for all your tips, i think im going to invest in some stitch and tear.
