Just get tomatoe steaks to hold the sunflowers up, but watch it with morning glories, depending on where you live, if the seeds get scattered they can take over. I planted some about 2 years ago and after that the took over my whole back porch, and this year I havnt saw a single one in my yard, thats weird too.

But yeah tomatoe steaks could hold up those sunflowers, they dont look to great but they will work.

yeah that could be cool . . . but i have california mamouth sunflowers growing in maine soil . . . i need sum kind of a creative sterdy desing to tie the sunflowers to and have mornglrs climbing too
i was thinking mabe big sticks or steaks on each flower then ties some kind of hemp kobweb through them, but that is pretty expensive

    Serious question.

    Why bother.
Just let the sunflowers grow as they will. And they WILL bend over. The heads will become so heavy with seed that they tip toward the ground and you would need a pretty strong stucture to prevent that.

I love the sunflowers too, the bigger the better. I plant them in various places in the garden for vines to climb -- morning glories, pole beans, peas, limas, scarlett runner beans. The stems of the sunflowers get 3-4 inches thick, and that still won't hold up the heads.

Years ago I got a couple of packets of "Ripley's beleive it or not" sunflowers that grew even taller. Wish I could find seed like that again, but haven't seen any for years.

i want my flowers to grow tall and like you said they will keel over
my question was if anyone has and cheap idea on keeping them up cause nice fences and steaks are very expencive. they are going to be 7 8 ft tall and id like to see them up not down

check e-bay.com for the seeds you are looking for. thats where i get my flower bulbs

my sunflowers are constantly being strangled by the morning glories. I tore the morning glories down last year, but they must have reseeded with a vengance!! Every morning I unwrap my poor sunflowers and rewrap the morning glories around the fence. But, new ones keep popping up!! ARGHHH!!! My daughter won't let me tear them up...because they are "pretty" but they are driving me crazy!! I was gone this weekend and those bastards took over!
