This HM Prison Pentridge. Better known as just Pentridge Prison because it's all the same behind those big bluestone walls I'm sure. "H" Division was home to Mark "Chopper" Reed (great book by the way) and even Ned Kelly according to legend as it first opened in 1850 to house the increasing number of criminals during the Victorian gold rush days. At the time it was considered "far enough away from melbourne city for a prison"....all 8kms away. "H" Division still stands today under The Heritage Protection Act, and a few watch towers, but most of it is now selling as a residential development. With houses, townhouses, and plans for shops and cafes', all built within the old bluestone prison walls of Pentridge.... Question is...?? Would you bring your family up on this land? Land that holds such history that you could only imagine what it would have been like, and that still has the bullet holes and razor wire today? Hmm? Northern Wall Front Gate (taken on my camera phone)
I wish they had just left the prison as a museum. I went there when i was 7, it freaked the hell out of me.
