I would like to start my own website on an actress I am a fan of and was wondering if anyone had any advice. I would also like to know which webhost is the best to use.
You can register a domain name for 8.95 here: https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/registrar/search.asp?se=+&ci=144 I've used many web hosting companies over the years, the best one I've ever dealt with is Hasweb http://www.hasweb.com/experience/hasweb_hostingplans.html Hosting for one year is 34.99, I've never had a downtime, and their support is superb.
Thank you, nemisis and onewayout tha was a big help. Could you or anyone else tell me the difference between com, net, org and biz.
.biz is a generic top-level domain intended for domains to be used by businesses .net is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) used on the Internet's Domain Name System. .com is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) used on the Internet's Domain Name System .org was one of the original top-level domains, established in January 1985, originally intended for use by organizations that did not meet the requirements for other gTLDs. Now anyone can register a .org domain. .org was the commonly recommended for use by individuals, although .name and .info are now alternatives. [all from wikipedia] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.org
This article should help. http://www.allbusiness.com/articles/Research/2262-2219-2226.html There really wasn't a direct extension meant for general personal websites until .name came around (not sure when). Most people end up using .com simply because it's the most well known extension, but it's technically wrong. I don't know how long .US and other country codes have been available, but these are probably the most technically correct other then .name to use for personal websites.
