Guys, it's FOLK MUSIC WEEK at my house. I would like you to name your favorite FOLK artists. I get WOOD for Cass Elliot. Peter, Paul and Mary are among my friends. And those who know me, HOW can I let this thread slide WITHOUT mentioning John Denver.
Bob Dylan - with props to John and beggin Matt's pardon, but he is the boss. Mamas & Papas PP&M Joan Baez Gordon Lightfoot Joni Mitchell Carol King James Taylor Dan Fogelburg John Prine Jim Croce Richie Havens The Chieftains Melanie Bonnie Raitt Doc Watson Maichael Franks Bela Fleck Harry Chapin Jorma Kaukonen Carly Simon Simon & Garfunkel Warren Zevon Oh yeah... and John Denver Some of those artists are transitional, borderline folk, and I know that folk purists will scoff, but I doan care - so there.
Just don't forget Peat Seger ( a true Hippie and enviormentelist) the Roches (if you are from the ny metro area Arlo (and of course his dad) Tom Waits (Blues or Folk, you tell me) Leonard Cohen ( great lyrics Donoavan's first couple albems ( even if he was a clone of Dylan, can forgive him) and my all time favorite Tom Paxton - been looking for the origianl version of "Mr Blue scince cd's came out

Judy Collins, John Sebastian...and many of the ones already mentioned. Even named my sunnyboy after one...Donovan.
Joni Mitchell John Denver Gordon Lightfoot Joan Baez and I have to mention a group that I don't think anyone else has mentioned...the Carter Family...as in Mother Maybelle and the Carter sisters. And before that I think it was Maybelle, her sister and her sister's husband that were the original group. Any jug band fans out there? I used to work with a guy who was a big jug band fan...can't even name any of the groups we used to listen to on the second shift, but the music was pretty cool. Stuff I had never even heard of before he introduced me to it.
