    Guys, it's FOLK MUSIC WEEK at my house.

    I would like you to name your favorite FOLK artists.

    I get WOOD for Cass Elliot.
    Peter, Paul and Mary are among my friends.
    And those who know me, HOW can I let this thread slide WITHOUT mentioning John Denver.

    the Roches (if you are from the ny metro area

    Arlo (and of course his dad)

    Tom Waits (Blues or Folk, you tell me)

    Leonard Cohen ( great lyrics

    Donoavan's first couple albems ( even if he was a clone of Dylan, can forgive him)

    and my all time favorite

    Tom Paxton - been looking for the origianl version of "Mr Blue scince cd's came out

    NOW for a bit of a suprise! As far as "Folk" music goes? Even RAP is Folk music.
    But back to Classic folk. How could I forget Carly Simon!! Shame on ME!

    John Gorka's "houses in the Fields" or "Blue's Palace"for those who haven't heard him are both a real treat.Nancy Griffith's early works.Her new stuff is orchastrated and less folk but still excellent.Michelle Shocked has pushed folk in a new direction while still being true to it's roots.As for classic folk,John Stewert The Birds,Flying Burrito Brothers..it's a long list.peace

    and I have to mention a group that I don't think anyone else has mentioned...the Carter Family...as in Mother Maybelle and the Carter sisters. And before that I think it was Maybelle, her sister and her sister's husband that were the original group.
    Any jug band fans out there? I used to work with a guy who was a big jug band fan...can't even name any of the groups we used to listen to on the second shift, but the music was pretty cool. Stuff I had never even heard of before he introduced me to it.

    seals and croft Can't think of any others that haven't been mentioned already, lot of good tunes listed herein - dylan, Michael Hedges, Bela Fleck, Arlo, Donovan,Carol King, Joni Mitchel, Joan Biaz...I think we'll have a folk music week here too!
