LONDON, May 23 (UPI) -- Researchers say a study suggests people who smoke excessive amounts of marijuana might suffer brittle bones in later life. The study did not examine people who smoke cannabis, but, instead, focused on how natural cannabinoids attach to bone receptors in mice and adversely affected bone density. "The work we've done would suggest that if you use a lot of cannabis it could stimulate bone-absorbing cells, and that would be bad," said Stuart Ralston who conducted the University of Aberdeen in Britain and later moved to the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. "This is an important finding since it demonstrates that the receptors which cannabis acts upon are not only important in the nervous system, but also in the control of bone metabolism," Ralston told The Independent. The findings appear online in the journal Nature Medicine.
hmm interesting..but i dont know..once my bones get brittle ill believe it..i guess u could just drink a class of milk with your blunt next time...or if ur a real badass u can put some milk in your bong water and drink it once ur done..haha ..that would be faul..
scientists love them mice.... im sure they figured they'd start on a small scale first... im sure testing a 100 lab mice is a lot easier than testing 100 people... and for a study that i've never even heard anything about before... im sure they werent just gonna go and test on people right away....... government propaganda would pick that one up in a heart beat.... next tv commercial you see... a 17y/o kid will be walkin down the street... fall and break his hip... then it'll go "thanks to marijuana my body is now as fragile as a glass house" or some stupid shit like that
Ive drunk about a gallon of milk every 5 days since I was about 7, and I've never had a broken bone(shattered a knee cap playing foot ball tho) I should have broke my neck once by doing a back flip in the air and comming down on the diving board on my head then falling in the water, it just cut a chunck of flesh out the side of my head that healed in a month. My bones are like huuuge. So I dont think I have anything to worry about. lol.
yeah but u have to watch out from drinkin to much milk also..because of all the calcium i guess it ups ur chances for kidney stones or something like that anyways..thats what i was told..not sure if its true.. id like to drink some milk straight from the tit when im high
maybe the mice have a different effect on thier health with marijuana then humans, which they might use as an excuse to say that marijuana causes this and that....if this where true it would have been discovered years, possibly decades ago.
Mice are very often used in experiments, and the results are often pretty reliable as guides. However, a few problems have cropped up. First, these white mice are horribly inbred. Humans are generally not (maybe a little in the Appalachians...). Also, the mice live in little cages with little stimulation, while humans have a dynamic environment (this is really a problem, they've done studies comparing mice with challenging interesting environments to those in empty cages and the empty cage mice are somewhat deranged and have poorer health and other mental and physical changes). The problem is all the toys and attention the mice would need to be challenged would be too expensive, so most mice live in rather barren cages. Makes me somewhat doubtful sometimes about how useful they really are to us. Still, this is interesting. I'll have to make sure to get my calcium. I try anyways, though, so no big deal.
Oh well... That doesn't mean I'm not smoking. I should go roll one. I haven't had anything since 8 or something...
