Even if it's a Real member, or hell. An hosest advertisement, I don't WANT it trying to sell that shit to you folks. MY Family. Hey. Don't get me wrong. I smoke. I don't want ANY of you to start because of THAT crap!
Exactly Matt. The other night I came in here and saw all these ads and sort of slid off the handle. I realize this is free a speech forum, but I don't believe it should be for free advertising. Especially a place where a cigarette distrubutor can shove his products in front of any age group. I realize it's hard selling cigarettes. You can't do it on TV or radio, most websites won't even allow it, and they're cracking down on magazine and newspaper ads (I haven't looked at a newsprint for so long I'm not sure they're even allowed to do that now). But let's face it, if you have to spend time mailing out cartons of smokes to online buyers, how are you going to make any money anyway? Overcharge for them, or sell your customer's mailing list out. Yes I smoke too. I wish the government would lay off their 'truth' kick. I really find it implausible that a 43 year old woman died from second-hand smoke while the rest of her chain-smoking co-workers went on to live long healthy lives. I know that's not what the commercial says, that's what they want you to think. A more fitting name for the campaign may be 'half truth' or 'the truth spun our way' As with this crazy politically correct movement banning cigarette companies from sponsoring events they've been supporting for years, which have nothing to do with their product. As Larry the Cable Guy asks, what are we supposed to do, look forward to watching the "Tampon 500" on Sunday? Cigarettes are unhealthy and should not be promoted to people who may not be able to fully comprehend the risks their use pose. But as with everything else in life, they are there, and if people want them we will get them. I just don't think we should go to such great lengths to exploit consumers and reputable media channels to make a buck on them. If someone wants to sell cigarettes or anything else on the internet for that matter, they should go to a site that charges for advertisments and pay the freight, not come to an open forum and try to worm a few days of free ads out of what the true members of this site have built and contributed to.
It's bending the rules just a touch, but there ARE one or two 12 year olds on here. I can't say who. But, I agree with the Censors on ONE thing. Keep this crap out of our Childrens hands. And I mean the YOUNG ones!
think there's a lot more on here I would be worrying about before cigarettes in regards to twelve year olds!! I think these ads just annoy me cause they take up space from what mght be potentially life changing important threads that would be in their place instead if they didn't exist....urrr...ok....who slipped that acid in my tea!!!
