i usually put my hair up in a braid to keep it out of the way, but every once in a while id like to leave it down or put it in a ponytail.
my hair is blonde and ends at my butt, but the problem is, its really frizzy and big and looks dull and dead when i leave it down, but when its pulled together in a braid its so soft and shiney. its there anyway to kind of 'straighten' my hair so i can leave it down, without killing it?
i was just hoping you guys would have some techniques or ideas.
    thanks

usually the cheapest (but most time consuming) is to buy a flat iron and straighten it... but i can see thats gonna take a while if your hair is so long... there are solutions that are availible that can help de-frizz your hair and make it shiney and appear straigter... but there arent many other ways than using a flat iron... but if you use it correctly it will not be 'killing' ur hair... if you condition your hair and make sure its dry than it wont sindge or be static

a lot of my friends have flat irons by the 'hot tools' brand. they have ceramic plates i believe, but they get really hot. it wont kill your hair, but it straightens it pretty quickily. and if youre hair isnt oily, you can straighten it and wear it for two or maybe even 3 days like that (youll just need a 5 minute touch up with the iron probably, im assuming)

Hey. I think the flat irons work great. But, if you want to try something else, that is way quicker than the flat iron... i suggest a regular house hold iron. It might sound alittle primitive... but it works great, and is way quicker.
Have the setting set to low, you can either iron it yourself, or have someone do it for you. I usually like to have someone help me with it, because it's easier to get the underside of the hair.
If you are going to try this, I would also suggest getting a spray leave-in conditioner, and putting it on both before and after straitening. This will add to shine and softness while protecting it from the heat of the iron.
    Good luck!

hey! i had the same problem you do. i have shirley temple curls, but i worked at a hair salon for a few months and found something that worked so good for my hair. have you heard of the Alterna hair line? it is in the hemp series. get some Alterna Straightening balm and blow dry your hair kinda straight. then get some Alterna Straightening Starch and spray little pieces at a time and go over it with a ceramic straightening iron. ceramic doesn't dry out your hair and is so much better for your hair. it will leave your hair so straight! you can even use the straightening starch on curly dry hair too. i love this stuff. just do it in little sections. any questions, feel free to drop me a message anytime. w

i have straight but frizzy hair too...

unfortunately, regular flat irons bought from a grocery store that are made out of metal are cheap in price, but FRY your hair. although it fixes the frizz temporarily, the more you use it, the more you'll HAVE to use it, if that makes sense because it makes your hair frizzier.

if you are into the flat iron thing, try using a ceramic iron which you can find at beauty supply stores. these are a bit more pricey, but are much better for your hair.

I have the same problem...I don't know how often you wash your hair, but, if you can, washing it a little less sometimes can help. I used to wash my hair every other day, and I've backed down to every third day (nothing too radical!), and it seems to help a bit. Also, I use a straightening shampoo/conditioner, and a straightening gel...they all work great. I can't think of the brand name right now, but I will write it down, and put it on this thread when I get back to hipforums. I've found too that Nature's Gate Hemp shampoo, and the original herbal shampoo and conditioner work well. The previously mentioned shampoo, conditioner, and hair gel (the ones that I can't remember the names of) I use when the humidity is so awful that I can't get anything else to work. Blow drying helps also, but can damage your hair in the process....

I also had a hot tools f;at iron but I left it on over night and it got too hot and broke. I used to straighten my hair almost everyday until my hair started to get all dry and gross with split ends. My hair used to be straight until I got a perm then I had to straighten it. No I just wear it up or sometimes crunch it. I'm mad I got it permed.

Pureology is the brand name of the products I previously mentioned. They are great when the weather is humid (and my hair is practically sticking out on end, it seems). They are pricey, and I don't even begin to get them all the time (and vastly prefer the more natural shampoos and conditioners), but if I feel like a walking frizzball, they work very well for me. Good luck!
