i volunteered for meals on wheels with my mama when she made me ahaah but i'll do it again in 11th grade when i have my license. i was volunteering at the democratic party of sarasota county headquarters, but they were really... liberal in how they get everything done there.. meaning they just walk around the place handing out candy to all the volunteers, and the volunteers do really boring work. so, i left... well, i didnt tell them i was leaving. i just left.
-i volunteer at the library. im a youth services librarian there so i do regular librarian work and i also host a story time session where i read books to the children. -i also volunteer at a center in the summer where kids from grades 4-8 come on weeknights and i help put activities/games together for them and run arts & crafts sessions -every now and then i help with food drives to a local homeless shelter and a bunch of us make bagged lunches and drop them off to the shelter. -during school i help run a recycling program - in the summer i also babysit kids for free whos parents cant afford to pay for a babysitter
-I've spent two summers being an assistant teacher at summer school for 1st and 4th graders. -I've worked at a food bank and helped out Tent City which is a homeless community that sadly gets relocated every three months (nicest, most giving people I've ever met). -One summer I cooked at a summer camp. -I volunteered at a community theater for about 10 years, does that count? -Last year I campaigned with the Democratic party, that was loads of fun. -I also volunteer to go to caucuses... does that count as something? -I worked with a fishery to monitor, in a local stream, the rate of different species of fish and their relative health. I'm sure I've done more, but I can't remember now.
I used to do work for nursing homes. I live down the street from a retirement community and my mom is a nurse. I'm generally on call there. If the power goes out, I bring flashlights and blankets, batteries, etc. I also help reset the power and everything and make sure everyone is in place and do a headcount. I also volunteered at a mental hospital.
I need a third option on your poll. I'm a trained Marine in a past life. I don't volunteer for diddly unless I agree with it. I'm a Tree Hugger, and environmentalist. But, who will defend our RIGHT to be what we are?
Yeah, I'm planning on doing some activism stuff this Summer if I have nothing else to do... I'm licensed in CPR and I could take another course and may become a part-time lifeguard here.
i do a lot of work for the handsoffvenezula campaign in ediburgh (if interested, click mojo's dancing banana)
When i was in the ninth grade, i had to do 10 hours of comunity service each semester for english. In the first semester, i went and volunteered at a Y. When i first went in and asked for a volunteer job, i asked for something i can do for "community service", and so they thought i was a drug offender and put me downstairs folding towels with a bunch of other druggies. When i relized i could do a much easier job, i went and asked if i could just sit and watch over the childern in the child play zone, or whatever it was called. That made it much easier, all i did was play pool all day.
I volunteer to bring food to local poor nieghberhoods and organize clothing drives and activities for them. Every once in a while I organize an activity in one of the poor public schools here. I go to a house for mentally retarded kids about once a month to spend some time with them. I constantly help the community with tree planting projects and such. ...and some other minor stuff.
