Whoa, so I got a sewing machine today as an early birthday present. I've read the manual and stuff and I'm still confused as hell about it. What on earth do I do? What are the stitches for? Tips?

Gaaaaah. But other than the utter confusion, I'm quite enjoying staring at it and day-dreaming.

I just got a new machine too. I, also stare at it alot. hehe

But seriously, go get some scrap fabric and go at it! Your manual will tell you all about the different stitches and features that your machine has. What brand is it? Experiment and have fun!

I figured that scrap fabric was a good start. Cool! I'm all excited because I've planned out the first thing I wanna make with it. Hehe. Oh, and it's a Kenmore. Figured that brands didn't matter too much because it's my first one and all, and yeah. But, I donno, I like it.

What brand is your new machine?

My first machine was a Kenmore...used it for like 20 years before I bought a new machine (Baby Lock)...but I still miss it sometimes.

My first was a Walmart Brother...I just got a new Bernina a week ago. I have had so many machines over the last 6 years. A few months ago, my grandma gave me her 20 yr old Bernina. It ran great, then it just...stopped.. So my mom & grandmabought me a new one! I was shocked!! It was a mighty pleasant surprise!

My first sewing machine was a hand me down from my Mom,a Kenmore....it worked for over 20 years for her, then I burnt up it's motor within a month haha. Then I had a Euro-Pro,it was terrible, poorly made. Now I have a new Kenmore...so far,it's great. I've had and still have a few vintage machines people have given to me,but in general the Kenmore machines are really good in my opinion.

Good luck with your sewing :)
