Two very similar books, I'm just wondering which one everyone likes better. In my opinion, Living on the Earth is much better because Chelsea Cain (author of The Hippie Handbook) almost makes fun of hippies, and she's not very funny while doing it. So which do you like better?
what are they about? are they autobiographies, or do they give helpful life info? i like alicia bay laurel's...shit, i forgot the name. check her out though, she seems to have given the ultimate 'hippie handbook' she got all her friends, back in the 60's, to write about one practical crafty thing they do - then compiled it into a book.
i want to get some of those kinda dooks. i just got woodstock craftmans somthing or other, thats cool. its got like 6 different hippie type crafts.
Acorn, get the second Woodstock Craftsman's Manual. It has TONS of other crafts. Or if it's the second one you got, get the first one.
i think i got the first one, i didnt know there was a second one. i got mine at half priced books, i'll have to look into getting the second one too. thanks!
I've got Living on the Earth and Being of the Sun, both of which are very good, I love the style of the books it makes it seem a lot more handy I haven't read the hippie handbook but.. there's no competition for Alicia Bay Laurel
The Hippie Handbook doesn't take itself too serious....It does seem to be ripping the piss out of hippies, but at the same time it's fun to read
Finally, someone who agrees with me! it definitely mocks hippies. As the daughter of hippies, I find barely any of it humorous.
nothing like being a tie-dye diaper baby! Chiming in on Woodstock Craftsman's Manuals. Get 'em both. also... anyone have a copy of Elizabeth Zipern's Deadhead craft book? Its OOP, but it was a fun read. She also wrote Cooking With the Dead and collaborated on Tofu Tollbooth.
Wow I must own alot of books.. I own every book mentioned in this thread including the Elizabeth Zippern Books... The Hippie handbook was amusing.. But no where near as useful as any of the other books mentioned.
I've only read the Hippy handbook, thought it was amusing and had some good ideas, but was quite silly at times too. Should definitely try to locate a copy of Living on the Earth I feel...
