I don't know if any of you are interested, but I figure a lot of us have long hair or dreads, so it was a possiablity. I found a site that offers step-by-step instructions on how to tie head/hair scarves.

    http://www.tznius.com/cgi-bin/tying.pl

I wore my hair back in "the ribbon" today... and the scarf stayed put all day!

ive got to give a great big thank you...

i love using a scarf to keep my hair out of the way... plus theyre pretty. i do often have trouble getting it to stay though... this sure beats my twist-a-lot-and-pray-it-stays method

Thank you for the link. I always have problems with my scarf falling off. I always knew there had to be a way to keep it there for even 1/4 of the day. Maybe now I can go slip free for once.

    Just glad to help Ladies!

One variation I already came up with was on the "ribbon" one. I fold my scarf in half, and pull my pony tail threw instead of making a "bun".. so my hair sticks out the back.

I have long hair and it's always in the way, falling into my eyes,etc....so maybe a scarf would be a good idea.

I have really long, curly, unruly hair, that I have to keep pinned to my head almost all the time. I would prefer to use a scarf, since there is no metal jabbing my scalp, but my husband says I look like a maid, or a cancer patient. I think I look rather cute and gypsy-ish, but he really won't take me out in public wearing anything on my head, especially a regular bandana. I also love the crocheted snoods, like from rein type style, nothing super baggy, just prettier than a tam, he doens't like those either. I can't imagine what he'd say if I tried to wear a rainbow tam or something.

We are planning on taking the convertable to the airport to get a friend, which means I have to wear something on my head. So I found my prettiest chiffon floral long scarf, and he still didn't like it, he suggested one of my big floppy sun hats, yeah, that will stay on at 65 mph.

Can anyone suggest ideas to help make my husband think it is pretty? If I had a big scarf like needed in those pics, I'd love to try the "ribbon", but I am afraid he'll then say I look like an old hebrew woman, or a muslim or something.....argh....I want a way to wear my hair that is off my face and secure without having to spend forever jabbing metal things in my scalp...he also has quite the aversion to overalls too, but those I can live without, although they are superduper comfy.

Thank you so much....added that link to my favourites:)

Kristina you sound like you have hair just like mine.....my husband has laughed at many of my head scarf attempts, frankly I just carry on and do it now.... I think that " old hebrew woman" is one of my best looks :p .....I think the look he has liked best is when I plonk a beret on the top of my head it sort of controls the hair on the top of my head taking away the need for pins and stuff like that.

Just editing this to say sorry...maybe a beret is the same thing as a tam?? If so unfortunately can't think of anything else at the moment.......

My hair is super thick and curly as well. My husband is bald, but still sometimes thinks he has the right to comment on my hair. So, I made him a wig, using yarn and an old pair of pantyhose... he wore it for 2 hours before he had a head ache. Now he usually minds his own business!

If you want something else to keep your hair off your face, there are these elastic headbands. Basically, they are large loops that you wear basically like a headband, except that they secure themselves under your hair in the back. I have about 20 of them, in different colours. I know "Goode" is making them now. You can wear more than one at a time... I usually wear 3, evenly spaced across the top of my head.

wow. I wear my hair up every week at temple. I AM a Jewish woman (and for the goy guy that cannot tell the difference between hijab and a scarf, may a thousand kosher fleas bite his nuts) and these comments are...disturbing.
go back and LOOK at the scarves. Without the modesty, tznius, requirement, you can show bangs, or wear the scarf farther back on your head, or let a pony tail show as the wise sister said earlier.
Have fun. And don't think you'll look like a "cancer victim."
Instead, if we ALL wore scarves, maybe our sisters with chemo would not be stared at as much. Wouldn't that be great? They'd be able to go to the store without stares or questions.
to compare this modesty code to hijab, look up hijab and find a clothing site. they blur the womens' faces because that would violate modesty for them to have her face open to everyone.
