I really can't get my head around what makes people do this... can you explain why you do it? A release of frustration?
I can try to explain. There are many reasons people do it. Some do it as a cry for attention Some people don't know how to handle emotional pain, so they turn it into physical pain Some people get hurt out of frustration, and then realize that the chemical released in your brain really works to calm you down Some do it because they have heard it works- and it does. I have been cut free for almost 2 years, but i still get urges to cut every once and a while. Crackforkids has an excellent link to a site that helps give info on how to stop. Greasytuesday, if you want to ask any more specific questions, Ill be glad to try and answer!
Yup.. can vouch for that one. I used to do it (not too much or too deep, but still have some small scars).. had already stopped before I got his link but I think it would've helped me a great deal. I think Hey.. pm me if you want.. don't have the link though.. pm crackforkids about that one!
Thanks, my ex-girlfriend used to do it and it would seriously freak me out, and she never really could explain why she did it. People really seem to have no control over it, and that I just can't understand.
will power is how you stop plain and simple. im gonna do my best to be nice right now although i have no respect for cutters. i see it as somewhat of an addiction...and just like any other addiction you have to find a way to counter it. 1. quit 2. replace it with something positive 3. realize how wrong it was to do it in the first place. you cannot justify it. be strong and go cold turkey(so to speak).
i too am a cutter and i dont think you can stop...it just happens and makes you feel better...you cant stop until youre ready...i havent been able too and its been going on 6 years now
I think u have to look at the other things in your life and start with changing something else i know everytime i try and stop doing a bad habit/addiction i have to change something in my life/style aswell so u can change a pattern go to the gym or do excercise eat better, study something u enjoy and spend time with good people see a therapist often this will make u stop doing something bad more than just simply trying to stop
Hey.. everyone can stop. Six years is a long time but like a previous poster said.. it's about quitting and replacing it with something else. I fully understand what you are gaining from cutting.. but look at your body.. you're loosing a lot as well. Not to mention the risks if you cut too deep or when it gets infected. I don't know any cutters with a happy normal plain life. Cutting is usually a way of coping with emotional problems an/or stress. Untill you are ready to face that and work on that as well, you are always going to long for the cutting. Don't focus on the cutting alone.. focus on the whole picture. I found that website I was mentioning earlier.. you might want to check it out. http://crystal.palace.net/~llama/psych/injury.html Good luck.. take care
I agree with dope's chick about the music and exercise. i think physical activity works really well at getting rid of the urges. peace & love.
