ummmmmmm......ok i have most of the songs les paul recorded along with chet atkins. steve is still way more inventive than both of them. and i dont need to learn guitar, i already know plenty of shit, and can play plenty of chet and les songs. steve is still more challenging to learn and more staisfying once learned.

    ....
As a Yes fan myself, I'd have to disagree on both counts. Don't get me wrong-- Yes is a great band and Howe is a great guitarist, but IMHO neither are the be/all-end/all in the music world or even within the prog-rock genre. I'm sure you'll turn your flamethrower towards me for this, but I don't really care... Music is described as "subjective" for a reason! :)

Yes is amazing. Excluding classical composers, they're probably the most melodically complex & structurally intricate songwriters the world has seen to date. They're not for everyone, though. But hey, a lot of people can't stand Beethoven, either. It's a matter of preference, I suppose.

Exactly. Either way they are extremley talented so it pisses me off when people call Yes shit. Like you said, they're not for everyone but you can't ignore their skill.

no, i must say that you are definitley the man. i was actually playing the clap last night, i got that song down note for note, only thing is i cant play it faster than steve does, only parts of it, but when i go to fast i slip up. still fun to try though.

What amazes me about SH is the way he can play live... every note perfect. I mean, you'll hear Rick Wakeman occasionally flubbing a few notes, and the rest of the gang will sometimes "dumb it down" for the show, but Steve is always on the money. I'm glad I don't play the guitar, or I'd prolly go nuts trying to figure out everything he does.

yea that is so true, and i hate to say it, but chris on bass, as awesome as he is, i have heard him do that more than once. it is barley noticeable because everyone should be focused on Steve, but i have noticed that myself. oh by the way, im currently in the process of figuring out the opening fast part of Close To The Edge. a god DAMN! talk about fuckin hard, man that shit is harder to play than Sound Chaser believe it or not! But I'll get it by the end of the weekend hopefully.

Man the beginning of CTTE...! It's insane. I swear Steve goes off on some weird time signature, almost like he's ignoring the rest of the band, but wham it all comes together. If you can figure it out, you're a maniac. I love it!! I think that's the sort of stuff that pisses off the non-Yes-fans, because it just sounds like a mess. But one thing about Yes is that they always bring it all together. CTTE is one of my faves, because it really is a gawd awful mess in the beginning, but the ending proves they can tie it all up. Another example: the end of Perpetual Change. That's why I like Yes so much more than bands like ELP who never quite bring it home in one piece. Yknow?

yea i know, ctte is insane man, but i love it so much. it's like what they do in a couple songs. i know it took me awhile to really get what was goning on in going for the one, but i remember they opened a show with it once and i loved it from then on.
