Not forgetting them. Cabdirzag claimed that Jesus's "main goal" was the worship of one God. This was unessasary among the Jews, who were his primary audience, so how could it have been his "main goal". As far as the gentiles go when a gentile woman asked him to heel her, at first he said, "I am sent unto the children of Isreal. Is it mete that I throw the childrens food unto the dogs?" She said, "But the dogs may eat scraps from the masters table" at which point he heeled her.
It was said that Jesus was attracted to the Buddhist monestaries. Im sure Jesus would have no problem with compassionate vegetarians
The Buddha's greatest concern was the alleviation of all suffering so that one may attain a state of harmony, a "paradise" if you wil. God's concern is that evil should be driven from the world so that there is no longer any suffering, and paradise is achieved (heaven on Earth; "thy Kingdom Come"), no? They merely take two different methods to achieve this loss of suffering; Jesus believing in the power of God, and Buddha believing in the power of man. Think about it. Buddhists tend to be some of the nicest people; their entire focus in life is to alleviate suffering, to achieve self-mastery and self-perfection, to purify the self, and to be a kind, loving, and compassionate being to all. What's the difference between the ideal Buddha and the ideal Jesus? One of them believed in God. That's basically about it. I could see how a man such as Jesus would be attracted to Buddhist monastaries. Buddhists certainly do no wrong. Cabdizzaraq (at least I can spell your name, aye? ;P ), I remember you once quoting from the Quran, I believe? Something to the effect of: Good intentions are written down by God as one good deed, and completed good deeds are written down as ten good deeds, and bad deeds are written down as one bad deed, and bad intentions resulting in good deeds are written down as one good deed ... something like that? Certainly, Buddhists have no bad intentions, nor do they disbelieve in God simply for the sake of doing so or being unkind or dishonest to anyone, including themselves. If God writes deeds down as such, I would think that Buddhists would have a great deal more good deeds done for all of humanity. Here's another big difference between Jesus and Buddha. Jesus died for humanity's sins because he was asked to by God, a sacrifice, if you will. Jesus helped humanity because God asked him to. Buddha helped humanity of his own free will, and only for the sake of humanity.
Excerpted from an article found on google, with references to several books written about the parallel teachings between both figures.
Buddah isn't competition for Christ. He is just another way for Satan to trap people into thinking there are other ways to avoid hell or to get to heaven. But Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the only way.
Jesus and Buddha and Even Krishna were killed by the sins of man. And All taught people to raise against that vary nature
Probably not.... but he would still want them to pick up their crosses and carry them daily. And eating meat isn't a sin so I don't think the vegetarian part would matter honestly.
"Jesus answered, The foremost is, "HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; 30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.'" This is the great teachings of this great man(didnt see him say worship me in there somewhere...)
Well THEN WHY DO U people come in a Christianity ROOM and babel about buddha? When You know thats all were gunna do is argue?
True... there is a seperate room for buddhists. That's why I'm glad the Christian Hippies forum went private. There's not so much bickering in there.
Hmm, point taken into consideration... I think the main goal with this thread is for you to say what they already expected you to say and then label you as close minded(teasing buddha ain gonna help much either...)
whoever made this thread made an equal one in the buddhism forum, asking about a buddhist's opinion towards jesus. we must all remember that a forum on christianity is a forum for discussing any things pertaining to the religion; this is not a church, and christians and non-christians alike are perfectly welcome to post opinions here. like someone else said, there's a "christians-only" type forum somewhere else out there... i still find that one difficult to understand. how can anybody love someone freely when there's no other choice but to suffer horribly for all of eternity? that's not free love any way you look at it. the only way i could see any person truly love another is if there are no threats or prizes surrounding the deal. look at it this way, with other double-binds: "You should be free." "Everyone must play." "Control yourself and be natural." none of these make any sense. "thou SHALT love the lord thy god"?? ...as watts put it, "is that a commandment or a joke?" peace, sophia
Alot of people i guess look over the fact that Jesus prayed for him NOT to be hung on a cross..Also the dude went to Hell for 3 days...I think the guy did alot more the buddha IMHO. But thats just the way I see it.
If Buddha is in hell, then thats where I want to go. I guess Mahatma Gandhi is there too. And Kahlil Gibran, and Lao Tzu, and Confucius, and Rabbi Hillel, and Isaac Asimov, and then Aung San Soo Kyi, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama, must be headed there too. I would not even enter the pearly gates if they begged me, if these saints were not there. And if Yehoshua Bar Joseph actually is an opponent of them, which I seriously doubt, then I would be shocked.
I agree, and hope that we get to find out then.... that is not necessarily a given even. I have my own beliefs about what happens when we die, but they are just beliefs, and only my own, and are not anywhere near certain, nor anything for anyone else to be concerned about. Until we die, I doubt we'll know for sure, and even then, I don't know if we'll know. maybe the atheists are right, and we'll just rot. Who knows.
Madness, that people can have such angry views. What on earth do they teach in churches? please move to another planet thankyou.
