So, just out of curiousity and because I'm new to the boards, who is your favorite artist? I'd have to say mine is Salvador Dali, his artwork just mezmerises me...

It's Dali and Picasso. I like CUBISM. But also Kandinsky isn't bad artist, is he?? He is wonderful!! I think every artist is wonderful, until he would start to paint pictures like "The madness' birth".
Aw, sorry about that, I'm obviously new here, so I didn't realize that this subject was already brought up
Dali and Picasso, great choices... I'm having this little....extreme obsession with Dali at the moment; I went to the art museum a few months ago, and ever since I've just been a Dali fanatic. His work is truly amazing. Though I appreciate all styles and forms of art, I never really got into the normal landscapes and portraits deal. I guess it just doesn't strike any kind of emotion inside... Hmm, some other great artists: Magritte, Matisse, Escher... Magritte is another one I have a bit of an obsession with. In my high school days, our art teacher had us pick an artist out of her library of literature, research their styles of art and create an original piece of artwork relating to the style that artist used... and I chose Magritte; it was the most fun I've ever had in school I ended up giving my result to a friend, and now I regret it...I WANT IT BACK.
I really like the quality of Claude Lorraine's work but i think picasso is a genius. Dali isn't bad but we've got into discussions in the studio about Dali and my one teacher hates the guy-thinks he's a phony w/out original ideas. there is this one by dali though that I like where it's an ear but you can see theres a face in it. I don't know I think every artist has at least one decent piece
I loooooooove love love love Nene Thomas ( http://www.nenethomas.com ), but that my "this generation"-type favorite; but if you're talking about going back a step, then j'adore Gustav Klimt. He. is. awesome. http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/klimt/ His painting "The Kiss" is just plain inspiring. "Danae" too. "Love" is also really well done, but it loses in comparison to "The Kiss", at least, when it comes to inspiration. (for me):sunglasse
im a big fan of Kandinsky. went to New York about 2 years ago and saw his work in the Guggenheim, it was really inspiring. I did an A level are project on him as well and did a map of new york in his style
