hei .. i wanna have dreads too .. i wish that sooooooo much .. but i don't know anybody who can make me dreads .. ye, if you don't wanna have it anymore, you have to cut your hair
Here is some help for you... if you have any other questions just IM me on AIM. My screen name is BabyLex416 You can untwist dreads if they are new. But they are really a permanent style, so think hard ebfore you start. You will need a comb, and some beeswax product, I used knottyboy... go to knottyboy.com. Section the hair into the size of your finger, back comb ( towards the roots ) so its all nappified, and then twist and add the wax. The dreads will look thin right now, but later in time two dreads join into one larger one etc. Tp wash your hair, you will need a special shampoo, once again I suggest knottyboy. I rewax my dreads every three days or so, the humidity makes some of the loose hair flip out. Try your best not to wash your dreads for at least a week. I lasted 9 days. If you have any other questions don't hesitate!!
Wow u do really know ur stuff! do you think the neglect method is effective at all?? how long does it take before dreadlocks become permanent??
i have dreads by "neglect"... i stopped brushing my hair about two summers ago and only wash my hair with soap (to dry it out in the beginning - that speads up the process) so it's been almost two whole years and still the top of my head and the sides have not fully formed yet - the dreads in the back of my head (got formed quickest cuz i slept on them) are really nice though! they don't look like regular, hand-made dreads, they're all curly and kinky but they look very original the only "maintenance they need is to be more-or-less seperated by hand before each washing just to avoid the formation of HUGE dreads (4 or 5 joined together by loose hair) you just need lots of patience it also depends what your hair is like - mine is curly so it worked fairly quickly and well, however, if you have dead straight hair, all that will happen is the formation of huge matts of hair and thats not really the point.... peace -shrimpgirl

those 2 links are the 2 I used....i.m.o, if you want nice dreaddies, you'll have to give 100% and cut them out when ur 'done'
I didn't read the rest of the posts hangin out here, so if I repeat something, sorry--- But I had a whole head of dreads for a year then decided to take them out. I just conditioned them, then used a fine pick toothed comb and SLOWLY brushed them out... yes, you will rip out some of your hair, but not ALL of it... and, I've kept a fe dreads for years... and I recently gor rid of the last few, 6 year old dreads.... I cut off the ends... DOn't intend to get rid of those, they are really tied into each other, but if you cut off the ends, and condition them, they are easilty ripped out with a fine toothed comb. When your hair grows, new hair meets up with those already existing dreads and not really formed yet. So you can always preserve some new hair.
It took me about a year for my dreads to form, basically i just wore a hat alot and washed my hair regularly. I don't recomend wax in your hair because it will get dirt and stuff stuck in it, also hard to get it all out. I guess if you wanted them faster just backcomb, but i didn't mind waiting and it felt better to let it happen naturally. I didn't dread for fashion reasons though.
You both have beautiful dreadlocks Man, I miss mine! And the little beads and bells I had in them! And yeah, technically you don't have to cut them out, but in practise you do really! And they're not really a short-term hairstyle to be honest, but maybe you'll end up loving them so much that you won't be able to get rid of them Good luck!
You could just make them yourself. It's not that hard. And it's not hard to show people how to do it either.
ya if you just 'want deads for the summer' i surgest not even doing it. . . i miss my dreads. mine just happend. a few days of nothing and next thing ya know, i had 8 beautiful natural 'dreads' i always thought that this is what your hair is suppose to do. it felt so right at the time. it should not be a fashion.
