Heh...I don't think I could stand working a job where I couldn't at least wear my flip flops. Of course, I knew back when I was going to college that I would never pursue a career with a "dress code", so here I am in the computer entertainment industry, where I can freely wear pretty much what I want. I really feel bad for all those people I see around me downtown every day, wearing their stuffy suits and their tight ugly shoes that look like they were designed to torture the human foot.
Isn't that kinda strange? If it's okay sometimes, why wouldn't it be okay all the time -unless they mean in different situations, like when you are sitting at the desk as opposed to when you're visiting with customers, or when seeing regular customers as opposed to when a really big customer is coming in, or even summer as opposed to winter, or only when you have an 'official' casual Friday? I personally think casual Fridays are strange too, btw, if it's okay to see customers on Friday while wearing jeans, why not on Tuesdays.... but then at least people could put a label on it and people generally like that... 'oh, it's okay not to be all dressed up, it's casual Friday'. But to have it unstructured, just 'okay sometimes' that is weird. If jeans & sandals are good enough for one customer, when you don't know in advance who will be coming in or what exactly your duties will be that day, then it should really be okay the next day and for the next person, too. I'd be careful in pointing this out though since chances are the boss will say 'well, then don't wear jeans & sandals at all' (sorry for the topic drift, if anyone minds I'll split off to a new thread?)
I totally know what you are talking about! Why should some days be more special than other days? The funny thing too, is that I don't see or talk to any customers at all. I work at a small alluminum structuring company, where maybe twice, I have seen some clients come into the shop to look at some of our samples. I am in the I.T. department, and do lots of computer work, and database work. So it's not like I need to look professional for any reason at all. Just that most bossed feel that if you don't look nice, you won't be productive, or it will distract your co-workers, and your work environment. So be it I guess. So when I open my own business up, I'll be barefoot ev'ry day, and I will tell my employees that barefeet are encouraged, but not mandatory. This way, they will be compfortable working, and probably be happier. Then I am gonna post a big neon sign on the window that says to customers... Barefeet required, absolutely no shoes socks, or sandals of any kind allowed! Yeah, ok... That last part is a lie. But I will definitely make a sign that says Barefeet OK!
Well, I suck at bowling, but I make sure I don't wear the shoes as much as possible. I usually walk in wearing socks and if I'm with a group of friends or cool-enough people, I'll bowl in socks. Seems to improve my lame game. Otherwise, I'll bowl in the lame shoes but ditch them at first heartbeat.
ONCE and only ONCE when a friend and I went bowling I walked in barefoot and put those shoes on without socks ... YUCK it was the grosses thing I every did barefoot .. even worse than stepping in dog shit. never did it again .. both stepping in dog shit and wearing bowling shoes with out socks.
its probably to do with health and safety, they dont want you to drop a bowling ball on your bareffet, because you could sue them. but still, yeah it sucks
If im dumb enough to a. go barefoot and b. be so clumsy as to drop a bowling ball on my foot then hey I get what I deserve and its not their fault that I chose to go barefoot and that I allowed myself to be so clumsy and stupid.
How would that be any different if you dropped a bowling ball on your feet with bowling shoes? It will still hurt the same. If "You" dropped the ball on "Your" feet (Barefoot or shod) you shouldn't sue the bowling alley. It's not their fault you don't know how to hold a ball. And if anyone has ever dropped a ball on their barefeet, and sued, they need to be blasted away. Uf they sued, and won, then I am afraid, I will be moving out of America soon. Seriously... People sue people for the dumbest shit, and somehow happen to win.
I really do not think a bowling alley should be held responsible if you drop a bowling ball on your foot *barefoot or shoed*. Its not their fault if youre clumsy. The only way you should be able to sue them is if something of theirs is faulty and you get hurt as a result of it and assuming youre not doing anything you shouldnt be doing that you know would risk yourself getting hurt.
