what i don't understand is what you mean by "not real". the (historical) buddha was simply the prince siddharta gautama in nepal, born around 530 bce, died around 486 bce. what i'm asking is, are you saying that the man never existed, or that his teachings were incorrect? sophia

Uhhh... Some of the basic principles of Christianity are about the same as many Buddhist beliefs. I'm confused. As a Christian, aren't you supposed to be caring and understanding and unprejudiced? Just as an honest observation, but it makes you sound very ignorant when you refer to different religions as dumb. It actually makes you sound...well...dumb.

haha I agree...this is the exact response I thought I'd get.... how can buddha's teachings be dumb? he said nearly the exact same thing they both believed in unconditional love, compassion, and forgiveness to all amber you just backed up everybodies idea that (some, perhaps most, but thats irrelevant) christians are intollerant, close minded, and ignorrant, that is what jesus taught against... its minds like that that create hate, fear, and war
Well in that case, since you don't care, why did you even post? And why should we listen? Maybe because you judge people who are Buddhists without even knowing anything about the subject? I think it's really funny how you know nothing about Buddhism, yet consider it "dumb." Not that I would, but, I could just as easily know nothing about you (which is the case), and call you "dumb," but you probably wouldn't like that, right? There's a golden rule, do unto others as you would have done unto you. Do you follow that rule at all? And if you do ... are you asking to be insulted here, for some reason? At least the Buddha knew how to spell. Also, why would I follow a God if he teaches his followers to be ignorant and biased? I thought that was non-Christian to begin with. Don't know what level you're going to, but I'll send you a postcard, man. 8) Says who? Someone who actually knew the Buddha? Actually, you'll probably find this REALLY, really enlightening: The Buddha said that you can follow his teachings AND be a Christian at the same time. Bet you didn't know that. Also, nobody "worships" the Buddha as a God. In China and Japan, bowing before a teacher is a symbol of respect, under the impression that you will learn more if you respect your teacher. In other countries, nobody bows before Buddha statues, he was simply the first teacher. He also has a one up on you, because he eliminated all suffering from his life. I'll bet God hasn't done that for you; and it doesn't even take a God to do it, a man can do it too; that's what the Buddha did. =) Yeah, actually, the Buddha taught many of the same things that Jesus taught. I guess that means Jesus is dumb too?
