Just wondering where you all lie on the recent immigration stuff ups?
Were they legitimate mistakes or are there serious repetivive (sorry there is a word for this but I can't think of it right now) problems within the procedures/people which deal with potential illeagal immigrants in Australia?
    :H

I think it's totally fucked up. How could such things happen, it's just truly unbelievable...

yeah i believe there are some serious issues with the immigration procedures, and the integrity of late seems pretty awful.
What happene has been such a violation of human rights laws,,, i think their should be a big look at whats going on in the immigration department.

However i imagine the department would most likely feed the media, meaning most Australians some bullsh!t story, about changing procedures, but who honestly believes there will be changes? Not me.

I know by experience that Australian immigration can be a bit off, they really need more organization in their offices, but the one about deporting an Austrlalian citizen after an alleged car accident takes tha cake.

Australia has no real illegal immigration problems compared to the US. There are 7 to 10 _million_ illegal immigrants there. You can't just walk over the "border" here. :)

At any rate, I hope AU immigration gets their act together, cause I have to deal with them.

sounds too me like you had better have the number of a "nice" refuge in the Phillipines!!!

oh, duh me you are American and white (sorry can't see that so it is probaly a bit presumptuous)...you will just be held in Baxter for overstayng your visa!!! then again, if you are not and are sent straight home that would really make me question whether our immigration is equally fair and dah de dha....
Are you just overstaying or is it something more complex?
    :)

No, I am not here illegally. :D I had a job before I moved here, I am here on a business sponsored visa.
I Just had to jump through hoops getting a working visa. My story isn't as extreme as others, but they stuffed up telling me a simple things as exactly what their own procedure was, which resulted in me needing an "emergency bridging visa"..

    :)

I have heard a lot of nasty visa stories from students I have been studying with...sounds to me like people are made to jump through hoops and do 360's and even then it all ends up in a big mess on the floor!!
    good luck!!
    :)

mmm....given that the most recent two cases have been about people who held aussie passports I don't think I would be feeling too secure!! One just acted a little crazy and the other wasn't white...sounds like 90 percent of the people I know!!
    :(
