My fave film. Why do so many guys think it's a "chick flick"? I've only met one guy in my whole life who knows that it's a historical drama...not a chick flick. "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" is a chick flick! So, is anyone else here a fan of GWTW.
I had to force my husband to watch it - I'm a Tara, after all (and just glad I'm not a Scarlett). And he loved it.
My name is Ashley and my mom named me after the guy "Ashley" in that movie. My mom says now she should of named me scarlet cause I act alot like her. It's a classic. I haven't seen a good movie like that one in awhile. Only one that can compare now is Titanic.
I've seen Gone with the Wind at least a half a dozen times and read it when I was about 17. I don't think it has aged one bit. Vivien Leigh was excellent. Scarlett is often viewed negatively, and yes, some of her actions are reproachable - the word "bitch" is 100% aplicable. But she was living in very harsh times, in a male dominated world, and yet she never gave up on her goals, so in a way, I've always seen her as a hero. Anyway, if Melanie admired her, why shouldn't we.
It is a good movie in its own way, but I'm not much for unhappy endings. So, in my mind it is comparable to Titanic. Good movie, but it doesn't rank too high on my list because I like happy endings.
I've never thought of it as an unhappy ending. I mean, yes, bad things just happened, but they couldn't break her spirit. Tomorrow IS another day, after all !
I must be one of the few who never watched "Titanic", but how about "Casablanca" being a companion with GWTW. Difference is its the girl who walks out on the guy rather than the guy walking out on the girl.
