My school is having a Battle of The Bands, and one of the requirements was to record a demo, and my band recorded ours today. It's our version of Coldplay's "Clocks". It is a bit mismosh, because of the haphazard way it was made. Our bass player and drummer couldn't make it, so I had to do almost everything. In fact the only thing on here that isn't me is the acoustic guitar (played by the other guitarist, Rodney), which at times is almost indistinguishable from the electric guitar. That happened because it started out as just me on piano and him on acoustic guitar, I decided to beef it up a bit, seeing as how it had to be a full band demo. So, sit back and enjoy. Oh yeah, the end of it has the end of a bad take that I couldn't delete, so stop it at about 5 minutes and 15 seconds. http://www.angelfire.com/pa4/floydo...c/01_Clocks.mp3 You gotta Right-Click & Save to listen to it.
In a positively critiquing manner - It's great, but the timing and vocals with the music seemed to be a little... odd. Was actually a little, overblown at times. The piano/keys are the greatest parts, except for that chimey part around 4:15... that just got weird. Mostly, it wasn't that it was underpowering, it seemed a bit much, otherwise, I think it was great. I really can't say anything 100 percent surely, as it wasn't done with more musicians. The tone of the geetar was a little odd at times, too, a bit jumbly... I think Jonny Buckland used a Jazzmaster on that. It was pretty close, but it got jumbled moreso near the ending... anyway, (yes, I know I'm being too picky )
Well the guitar I used was a stratocaster for the electric, and the other guitarist Rodney used his Washburn acoustic-electric, and I eq'ed them both to be more trebly, because when we first recorded the parts they sounded a bit dull, and if you'll notice that chimey part is a Fender Rhodes. I tried doing solos with piano, and guitar, and I thought that they both really didn't fit, but I tried that Fender Rhodes, and I got the sound I wanted out of it. And yes the timing is jumbled a little bit, due to Rodney's guitar playing going in and out the beat, I basically had to position everything around that, that's why at the start of the 2nd chorus and somewhere in the Rhodes solo section, it seems to slow down. Well, if you guys aren't really interested in anymore recording flaws, I'll end this reply.
I thought that was a rhodes... it was just a little odd with the timing/beat for the most part, but typically, when playing with a full band, there doesn't seem to be as much of that.
