i really despise people who can only ever talk about being vegan or vegetarian. I'm vegan (on my good days, veggie on my bad ones ) but i never talk about it, or feel the need to boast or brag. I'm not talking about people who condemn meat eaters and preach...i mnea....dosi;hg;osdfg i dont know what i mean. lol. Every day this stupid annoying girl on my msn's name is ALWAYS something to do with being vegan. I wanna punch her. I'm done ranting now. bye. lol
I agree completely. I think obsessive veggies are that way because they don't get enough fiber in their diet. They should eat more raw fruits and ...oh sorry, there I go again...
I know what you mean ...a few of my friends turned veggie a week ago..since then theyve all eaten meat...yet they still talk about it nonstop and how eating meat is totally wrong..urgh
I completly understand what you mean. The only time that I tell anyone about being a vegetarian is when they give me the "what do you mean your a vegetarian?" look.
Sounds like most obsessive veggies are veggie not because of the veggie cause but because they're jumping on the next "cool" train. =\ Ah well, at least it's not doing as much harm as the next train, right?
Also can't understand it and am annoyed by it, but luckily I don'T know many people of that kind. I only say I'm vegetarian when asked or when I have to explain my eating habits for some other reason.
Yes! That's exactly how this girl sounds...like she's only vegan to be different. To be honest, i don't ever want to talk about being vegan, and i sometimes lie to strangers about it because i hate having to explain myself all the time and gettingin arguments over it.
idk, i understand how people would want to talk about it and get so passionate about it because so many people are unknowledgeable about it and good health and it is nice to connect with people about those kind of things. i dont understand why the word health has such bad connotations, most people usually think of some over-fit muscular guy who only drinks raw eggs for breakfast or something when they think about health. but good health is just simple knowledge and common sense and soooooo many people cant embrace those extremely simple things, and its just insanity to see so many people not recognize the connection between their body and mind and life, when there is a very big one imo...
if someone asks or it comes up, i'll answer questions, but generally it doesn't come up. (except by people who know and ask or ar tryign to cause problems... like my brothers). being vegetarian is a part of who i am, but it is not all of who i am. i have brown eyes too, but that doesn't mean one should go around talking about nothing but haveing brown eyes.
I usually don't feel it necessary to talk about my vegetarianism. The last time I really said anything about it was when my senior class was deciding where to eat for senior day and I announced I was a vegetarian so that they might choose a place that had more than just fries and salads as veggie options. There's no reason to constantly talk about it, it's only interesting for so long.
Every Single Day!! were exposed to meat and the meat industry....weather my friends talking about it in routine conversation.....weather an ad on tv or radio or a billboard....sporting arenas.....malls.....schools....everywhere.....every day.....so why would I possibly feel bad talking to another vegan about being vegan?!?! I am proud to be a vegan....and I do love beign a vegan....and I think meat eaters are silly....and since im being nice enough to not share these things with my fellow meat eaters.....you better believe im gona damm well talk about it to other vegans Do we not log in here everyday to hear from a veggie/vegan about what ever the days topic is? how can you say you hate hearing about being veggie/vegan when thats what this entire Vegetarain forums is about?
it doesn't matter how much you talk about it, what matters is if you can open your mind, and let other ideas in even if they are not your beliefs. I am vegan, but when my friends eat meat or talk about it, i take it with a grain of salt. You have to keep your sense of humor, or all you lose all sensibility, and just become bitter. That is why people view many vegans/veggies as assholes, because they get a bad name because of those who are. If everyone would just take things lightly, and inform instead of argue, then we could live in harmony. The thing is, I don't protest the consumption of meat nessecarily, I protest our abuse of our natural rights. Although even ina hunter gatherer situation I would still keep my vegan ideologies. Please keep the peace and spread good vibes, even vibes from vegans or veggies can be negative, and most I come across are, we need to live in harmony with all things, animals, including other humans, no matter what there beliefs are.
That's not what i said at all. I said i don't like when THAT'S ALL PEOPLE CAN TALK ABOUT. I don't mean on here, i don't mean, vegan on vegan, i just mean people who go around and all they can talk about is how they're vegan. It's like if someone walked around 24/7 and praised meat all day, or bible thumpers who can ONLY talk about Jesus and that. It's annoying. I'm vegan and i don't feel the need to brag about it to everyone i come into contact with. Like Hikaru said, it often makes people seem like they're only doing it to be cool. This girl never shows any real INTELLIGENT insight on why she's vegan, or being vegan. She just talks about it like it's a hobby and it's like her only way to be different. I don't know how else to explain it.
"I'm not talking about people who condemn meat eaters and preach...i mnea....dosi;hg;osdfg i dont know what i mean. lol. Every day this stupid annoying girl on my msn's name is ALWAYS something to do with being vegan. I wanna punch her. I'm done ranting now. bye. lol" -Lucy That was the part I was mainly refering to.....I go into vegan chats everyday.....I have online vegan friends where we talk about being vegan....recipes...health...animal rights....ect ect and everyones response followed something simular.....theres a big differance bewteen being a proud vegan and trying to shove your belief in someones face...... all my day to day real life friends are carnies....I live with 2 roomates....both carnies.....past relationships....with carnies ( really really hard to do it now) but my point is im not some crazy in your face animal rights activist.....im simply a vegan who loves animals and I incorporate that in my everyday conversations with other veggies.....and if im sitting there listening to some conversation on how the meat burger at lunch was soooooo good.....you bet ill probly say not as good as my veggies.....but im not going to tell him hes a bad person..not a chance......only when asked why I choose the diet/lifestyle then I would explain the problems with factory farming...and ect ect....even then I would rather most times just ignor the question cause 90% of the time its followed up by the dumbest questions possible..... I get what your saying now though.....I don't really know the type but I can imagine it....I guess everyone ive met have been serious about this and do it for real reasons and can hold down many inteligent conversations on the topic.....I still think I would rather hear from some anoying person on how cool veganisim is rather then how bacon makes everything tatse good.
I agree w/ the poster..i do not like when people shove their belifs down my throat... wether it is vegan belifs or christian belifs or buddist belifs or democratic belifs... whatever it may be... i love when people are not afraid let the world know who they are..but it can be taken too far..... i think what makes us so beautiful is that we have the freedom to be individuals and to make our own choices as to what we eat , what we wear, what we think, believe..etc.... i think that each individual is unique in their own way..some good some bad..but u must be tolerant of others that are not like u because that is just the way the world is...and we must learn to accept that...
I'm a serious foodie, so I talk about food and cooking a lot. I'm pesca-vegetarian (I eat locally caught wild fish once or twice a week), so most of the food I talk about cooking is veg. I'm also a current events/politics/social issues junkie, so, when these kinds of issues come up in conversation, I tend to mention the impact of diet. So, I sometimes worry that I can be one of those can't-talk-about-anything-else types. So, maybe I doth protest too much when I say that maybe they're just discussing their interests. Or, maybe I'm misunderstanding what you meant?
Artful, pesca-vegetarian is sort of a misnomer. It was developed for people heding way from the SAD to vegetarianism. On here, please simply use pescaterian, since many here hold strong views that any flesh is still "the other camp." Imagine this in a low, soft voice. I'm not reaming, but sort of ...pointing out a manners issue on here. That and you'd be amazed how "i eat fish" can hijack a thread... But good for you for being aware of what you eat! I was in Watercourse, a really nice veggie restaurant that adapts EVERYthing to vegan on request. Now veggie restaurant. Veggie menu. Next table over is loudly discussing how wonderful it is to be vegan with all the entry-level lines. C'mon. I don't want to hear about factory farming while I'm eating divine veggie food! I know what's going on...that's why I'm veg for 23 freaking years so far! This place is pricey, about like Indian restaurants, and is a special treat for me. But this table went on and on and on, led by this one guy with a holier-than-thou buzz. I wondered if he'd have to look at his watch or his daytimer if asked how long he'd been vegan. It really was "no zealot like a convert" sounding raps. It amazes me how many veggies only fing this one spot of common ground. C'mon... who likes trail running, frisbee, music, movies, theatre, books. we are what we eat but we are not ONLY what we eat. </rant>
*grins and shrugs* See, to me, pescatarian sounds like someone on some strange variant of Atkins where all you eat is fish. However, I'm easy & am content for people to call me whatever they want. Pescatarian it is. </hijack>
