Suppose you're making breakfast for half a dozen hippies. What would YOU put on the menu? I'd go with lactose free waffles or griddle cakes, muffins, oatmeal, fresh fruit and the option of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee or camomile tea. Any other suggestions ?
breakfast burritos is what we always make,, a couple dozen eggs a pound of cheese a pound of sausage some tomatos and peppers a can or two of potatos and tortillas ya can feed 20 to 25 hippies easy..
HH whatta ya feed the vegheads? our B'fast burritos are tofu scramble, some TVP well-spiced, and potatoes. WW tortillas and lots of fresh fruit on the side. No camomile as that is a "sleepy tea."
Veggie spag is always a treat with garlic bread and a fresh green salad, or enchaladas made with tofu or chicken or both. A nice Spinish Lazanga is a hit also. or cabbage and Shrimp egg rolls. Veggie Pizza is a taste sensation and a must to try. Mushroom fettachini is yummy too. Good Grief, now I'm hungry.. off to the kitchen I must go.
hah! Isn't that a little heavy for breakfast but I wouldn't mind it! Perhaps leftovers from yesterday’s vegan "Wook" from the own grown vegetables and with no salt or sugar added. And then some Earl Grey (any Indian tea).
Hippie breakfast? while all of the above meals sound great I would say it depends on how Hippie your Hippie guest are....I have remained true to the concept of Hippie all these years, being an orginal hippie, I find that there is no better hippie breakfast than one that is free. There are several methods to getting a free meal, can you dig it brothers and sisters, lots of times I pull into a truck stop and go thru their dumpsters. its free, and if you get there right after breakfast the pickin's are great. You can find all kinds of uneaten fruits, eggs, potatos, lots of people order more than they can eat and it just gets tossed out..bummer man Method number two works best if you are in or near a large city, there are tons of free meal programs there, churches, soup kitchens, even the police will sometimes give you a meal voucher to a local cafe...free...and to make sure you keep moving on the police will even give you a tank of gas.....free Method number three, stand on a street corner, with a can or other container in hand, and ask for spare change, get enought for a meal at the local cafe...don't ever take more money than you actually need for the meal or what ever it is you need..it ain't cool. Method number four, if you are driving cross country, stop at the local apple/peach/pear orchard and help yourself, now if you get cought, its good and bad, bad you got cought, but good cause most farmers will make you work it off...and give you a meal or two...free..if not they might call the fuzzz and you might have to spend a few days in the pokie...but thats good too because they feed you for.....free How many of you could survive on the road? I can!!
Shameless : While I have lived with Italians for many years, I have not known them to eat spaghetti for breakfast. Veggie spaghetti? Is that like pasta primavera or is it spaghetti that's served up with TVP balls? I'd shy away from this. It's a wonderful way of picking up pathogens from germs that were left behind by the previous diners, by flies that might have touched the food, by vermin that may have crawled on the food, or by birds that may have left droppings on the food. This is true and it offers a sense of fellowship. Begging is certainly not new. However, I might consider taking more money than I would need for the meal. It would possibly afford me clean clothes, soap, and opportunity to get me off the street and away from begging. I don't think I'd recommend ANYTHING that promotes stealing. It's a sign of poor citizenship, poor character and it is certainly NOT TRUE TO BEING A HIPPIE. Hippies I know don't steal.
Sounds good to me, as long as there's no meat in there I'll eat it. Earl Grey is nice, and green tea too! Or just plain old English tea.
You're assuming that hippies are vegetarians and that's not necessarily true. Where do you get the Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee?
Hey , I've eaten cold spag for breakfast a lot of times. When my garden comes in , I make a concoction from all the veggies in the garden. I dredge the veggies in cornmeal and fry it up in some olive oil or safflower oil and eat it with toast. A Keish(sp) is a delight if you eat eggs. I like french toast too, but again there are eggs involved.
I was gonna say spaghetti, but somebody beat me to it. But, definately, spaghetti is the quintessential hippy food for any meal. Add any canned vegetables to the sauce, especially chinese vegetables and bean sprouts. Delicious... Cold pizza is good, too, especially when you're coming down from acid.
