Me thinks you need to lay off the LSD because the USA wasn't the only country involved in WW2..nor was Hitler the reason we joined up in the war. Hitler began his reign of terror nearly a decade before we sent troops over. We didn't join WW2 until 1941 and then we were only in the war until we dropped the bombs in 1945.

So I guess England,France,Poland,Denmark, and Russia were just making shit up about Hitler to match USA propaganda?

and I thought all the wacko conspiracy theories had been used up. Next you'll be saying that the holocaust was just something the USA made up to justify war.

Yes, Hitler began his reign of terror long before the war, when for example he purged Jews from their professions and looted their possessions (not intended to rhyme!).

Yes, for example, the Katyn Massacre (in Poland) was alleged to be committed by the Nazis, when in fact it was done by the Soviets. Soon after though people found out it was done by the Soviets.

Most people were initially opposed to the war. Go to www.antiwar.com and read some articles by Justin Raimondo.

I can't say that everything written about Hitler is false, but some of it is (or was). For example, I doubt he had one testicle, that he was a homosexual, that he was part-Jewish, although it's possible that any one of these things is true.

He was not a vegetarian. He had a fondness for liver dumplings and squab. He might have been a homosexual, he carried on a long term relationship with his niece until she committed suicide but she may have simply been a beard to cover his homosexuality (this was after he banned homosexuality in Germany). And he was not an animal lover. Before he took the ampule of cyanide that ended his life he gave one to his German Shepherd, Blondie, to see what the effects would be. This does not sound like a devotee of animal rights to me.

Who knows? Who cares? Hitler was a psychopath. Whether or not his collective psychoses were caused by an STD matters not one iota.

i always considered his hatered to be simply a means to an end, I find it hard to believe he cared enough about anything aside from his own ego to truly like or dislike anything

What he may have felt is irrelavent. What is relavent is that Germans were more than willing to elect him and help him in the process of willingly killing 40 million non-germans. They knew what was going on perfectly well. These days Germans are trying to wash their hands of the deed and claim they were victims, yeah right.

It's used to be a German tradition to kill handicap people, purge gypsies and jews etc. long before Hitler came to the scene. Sigh, these Germans never learn.

I honestly think though that some of the younger citizens (a.k.a. those forced into Hitler Youth) might not have believed it was going on even though they knew about it. They had it drilled into their head that the Fhurer's actions were going to bring a better Germany to them.

I have thought about this alot since I have lived here in Germany (for about 1 year). It seems as though the memory is still just under the surface.

First of all there are some things wrong with what you posted above. Hitler was not elected into office. The Nazi Party was given a significant number of seats in the German Parliment as the economic situation became disasterous in the late 20s; yet, they were still in the minority. Because of the collations they were able to form, the health of hindenberg, and certain events (i.e. the burning of the Reichstag) Hilter nudged his way into power and then did everything in his power to consolidate it.

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH LEADERSHIP WERE SOME OF THE MOST GUILTY in giving Hilter unlimited power by the signing of the Concordat in 1933. This document gave catholic political sponship in return for the Nazis to stay out of Church affairs. Still this was a decision from the top, not a democratic, electoral decision.

The Germans were not the only group of people that hated Jews and other socially "impure" groups of people. The Allies certainly didn't go to war to help the Jews.

Anti-semitism was very common, not only in Germany but much of europe at the time. Well, now it is making a comeback, so I guess it never really went away. Hitler was simply a product of his times. That is why he appealed to the German people. They were smarting from the Versailles treaty, and rather than blame themselves for their misfortune, it was easy to scapegoat the Jews. His anti-semitism was the rule, not the exception. Probably any "man on the street" would have had similar views. The roots of european anti-semitism can be traced to before the middle ages. I doubt any specific event "pushed him over the edge".

Yeah, have you noticed that throughout history germany is consistently on the "wrong" side? Even going back to the holy roman empire, and the days of the germanic "tribes"? They always seem to be the "bad guys". I would argue that even today very little has changed. It amuses me to hear germany and france of all nations talk of human rights. We all know what germany's guilty of, and france, with their colonial atrocities, notably in algeria, can be said to be responsible for the birth of modern terrorism. But they are o so righteous, I guess, and can pass judgment upon other countries. I guess they really ARE concerned about human rights if their business interests and illegal deals with hussein are threatened.

The main reason the US got involved in WWII was because FDR engineered the japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Like September 11, there is a lot of evidence that FDR knew what the japanese had planned and chose not to act, despite several warnings, in order to sway american popular opinion which was isolationist at the time. That, and the threat to american business and shipping that german submarine warfare posed. So, besides being responsible for prolonging the Great Depression for several years, due to his boongoggle programs, he is responsible for the deaths of all those killed at Pearl Harbor. In fact, only once US industry cranked up for the war, and all the men went overseas, did the damage FDR did to the economy actually subside. Unfortunately, we still have to live with many of the foolish programs today.

No, I haven't noticed that. I HAVE noticed a mixed history. It is called nuance. So many important and PROGRESSIVE developments have come out of Germany, the barbarian stereotype is really unfair.

A quick glance of important German(ic) intellectuals and artists: Albrecht Dürer, Johannes Gutenberg, Luther, Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Strauss, etc. etc., ALMOST ALL of the most important modern philosophers, psychiatrists (Jung, Frued, etc.), Marx, Humboldt, etc. etc. etc.

What you see from the very incomplete list above is a history and people that are mixed. Hitler and the Nazis were only a very short part of the German legacy.

Why don't you also blame Americans such as the CEOs at IBM for providing the machines that made the Holocaust possible, Henry Ford for endorsing not only Nazi politics, but also their extreme racism. I understand that for some people it is easy to lump the Germans (and the French, and whoever else) into a group so that you can try to make sense out of what happened.

No matter what your opinion of past events are, the Germans today are very different from the Nazi core that hijacked Germany 75 years ago. Saying otherwise is EXACTLY like saying ALL Americans are racist segregationalists who wish to reinstate Jim Crow.

Walt Disney was a Nazi and so were many of corporate America's leaders in the 1930's. They did business with germany as well. Only a minority even on the allies side cared about the persecuted, many in fact were relieved that Hitler was doing the job for them.

I don't think Hitler was that bad, what he did to minority groups is debatable, but he brought economic prosperity, political stability and restored dignity to the german people. That's why they loved him. In fact most people should be grateful that he weakened euro power and brought independance to the colonies.

In fact, I've travelled around India and many people admire him. Contrary to popular belief, many Indians hate Gandhi and wish they had a Hitler as well.

Marx-what a great philosophy he came up with. Another means to enslave the masses. Some composers-wow-I'm blown away. Freud-most of what he came up with has been dismissed as hogwash (from Austria, too, by the way. But, like hitler thought, I guess it's all lebensraum fuer deutschland). The nazis were fortunately a short time in the german history, but are also the direct manifestation of it. Germany's thirst for empire and expansionism have been a threat to europe since the middle ages, and now today they accomplish through politics what they consistently failed to accomplish on the battlefield. You can point to some events in some parts of america, and even bold the letters, but that doesn't change the fact that germany is, and always has been, on the whole, a force for evil in the world. And all the "kultur" in the world will never change that. America has no doubt had problems in its history. Mass, large scale genocide in the 20th century is fortinately not on of them. Hearing a german cry rascism--priceless!

Wow! What can I say to that? I guess there's really no proof that minorities were incinerated, experimented on, made into lampshades, gassed, gunned down, beaten, starved, etc. It was also done to christians, dissenters, communists, hmosexuals, and anyone else the gestapo felt like doing it to. It's all smoke and mirrors, though, like the moon landing! Restored political stability? How exactly? Though iron-fisted totalitarian rule and total defeat? Restored dignity? By making germany an object of shame, contempt, and scorn and an example of how a supposedly rational nation can go completely crazy? Economic prosperity? The nation was reduced to rubble and totally bankrupt. They are only in the position they are in today thanks to the US Marshall plan which rebuilt the god-forsaken place. I guess all those extermination camps were just for display though. Ever been to one? It's not all facade.
Maybe India does need a Hitler. They are rather overpopulated and really, the swastika was just the old hindu sonnenrad.
