Well, generally anything by fender sucks if it isn't a reissue, MIA, or MIJ. I do own an MIM strat, but it has a few fit and finish issues.

Yes, Fender banjos generally suck... unless you don't have the money, but I'd rather save up. The Deering Goodtimes aren't too bad for a starter banjo. Tacoma and Godin make great mandolins for a good price.

A sax probably. Sax is the best Jazz instrument ever (except that it overblows a 12th rather than an octave [because it's conical]).

I've been listening to a lot of Brubeck recently and well, Sax kicks.

Hey,thanks for the information you all. That's the problem,I have no idea about banjos and I could easily get ripped off. I need to study it a bit more first.

Orsino...do you think I could teach myself to play or do you really need to learn by watching someone else?

You can teach yourself. I don't suggest a teacher. The easiest way is to get videos from the internet so you can see what the person is doing, also finding someone else who plays helps even more.

my friend has some instructional books that have the tabs in them as well, and it also came with a cd [as most do now], and i think there was some important theory in there as wel...but im with george...teach yourself, and find someone who can play to help out

Theory isn't all that important to me, it depends on the person.

by basic theory i mean like tuning chords, and the like...the tabs are on every song, so no note reading is nessecarty, the notes are there, but that can just be used to hear the tmiing, if you havent heard the song

I'm considering another djembe. I have one that I play and another that I have available for friends. I'd like to tune a second one differently. Mine is very bassy with a big sound but I really can't get those sharp pinging highs with it.

Yes, another drum. Although I only play one at a time, it's variety I'm considering. The djembe is that west african drum. I've been really getting into polyrhythmic music lately... interlocking rhythms that create an alltogether unique sound. Very addicting.
